Guest guest
Huge congratulations on y's success!! It truly does help so much to hear how well other children have done. I hope that next year my son will be able to say 'trick or treat'. Guest guest
Hi, - I don't know if I was the one that wrote that - I'm sure there were several moms who may have done it although I know I wrote something back then about hearing Josh say trick-or-treat after not being able to say anything except " babababa " and how exciting it was to go trick-or-treating that year (after starting the fish oil supps and really intensifying the speech therapy). So glad to hear that you and y are doing so well! Hope you keep coming to the line - lurking or otherwise - it's a great spot for support, advice, concern, venting, shoulders, etc., etc. Keep up the good work! Just so you know - Josh is now, after 2 1/2 years on the supps, talking so much we can't keep him quiet - understandability is increasing daily, his vocab keeps growing, his socialization is greatly improved (will initiate playing with pretty much any kid now and can go up to adults to ask for things - not just us or his teachers - and they can understand him). We had added the ProEPA (one cap in addition to 2 caps of ProEFA) as well as carnaware. Wait for what the next year brings you! Take care! Guest guest
Each year trick or treating with my now 11 yo, hfa, is a treat in itself. One year my dh was in the hospital for Halloween and it was the funniest one of all - he would grab the whole bowl of candy from people and go through to find something he liked. If they didn't have anything he liked, he would say, "Uhm, no thanks" and walk off. I spent the whole night trying to get him to take what he is offered and we could sort them out later. But he wouldn't have that idea! If people had candy ready to put in his bag, he would not open his bag for them until he inspected the candy. THe funniest house was a teenage girl trying to give him a candy bar he didn't want. He said "no thanks." and took off to the next house and she came running after him, "Hey! You forgot your candy!" and he is screaming back, "I don't want it!!" It was a loooooong night! This year, he dressed as a pirate - Capt. Jack Sparrow. He did not say " trick or treat" but rather, "Where be my treasure?" and every other pirate related phrase he has ever heard. Some people got it and went along with him while others just stared as if he were weird. But he had fun and got a ton of candy. So all is well for another year... RoxannaAutism Happens ( ) trick or treat well, this was thomas (6) first year out trick or treating...it wentvery well!
