I know a lot of apraxic kids do have this problem. I had to teach my son to do

the nose blowing in steps...breath in with mouth open....breathe out with mouth

closed. He is good at it now though...hope this helps.

I can't speak for all apraxic children, but my son (oral/verbal apraxia,

hypotonia, GERD, DSI, and g-tube dependent) at age 4.3 can't blow his nose,

and just learn to spit a couple of months ago.

Don't know about the rest of the kids but Josh does not blow through his nose at

all - he blows through his mouth thinking that's where the sound that dh and I

make when blowing our noses comes from. Josh also does not suck in on straws -

only blows out.

I would say no to this question.

had/has mild apraxia, but you really can't tell anymore. She

never had any trouble blowing her nose.

has/had severe apraxia, and she had lots of trouble blowing

her nose. I don't remember when she finally figured it out, but I

think she must have been around 5 years old. She really needed to

know how to blow her nose because she got lots of sinus infections.

It was just gross during the winter. All she could do was wipe her

nose.

Yes, I believe most do, however my daughter is 4 1/2 and just recently

started, (Im not sure at what age any child should be able to blow their nose)

but

she is a visual learner and is constantly having a runny nose so with me

deminstrating, I would put her hand up by my nose and I would blow out (making

sure

that of course I had blown my nose dry) its sounds weird but I think it worked

for my dd because she is a visual learner and most of the time learns by

watching. It probably took a couple of weeks of doing this but she has got it.
