Guest guest
I really like Elavil for my pain. It has helped alot. It took about a week and a half to kick in.What I dont like about it is the weight gain. It really bothers me. Im quite thin and Ive already gained about 6lbs in 1 month on it. I thought only I noticed it but my bf asked me the other day if that pill caused weight gain. I told him yes : and he said "I dont care, yr still beautiful and if it makes u feel better you should take it" I thought that was SOO sweet! But it is a concern for me. Im going to go to the gym for the first time in two months. I havent gone since my pain started. But my pt said I could do simple things but no high impact activiitys. Im going to try th eliptical for a bit and do some arm weights. Anything to burn off some cals. I have also been eating badly since I got my pain. So its partly the drugs and partly my sweet tooth to blame~Becky Thorn wrote: Hi, all, I am considering trying an anti-depressant for treatment of pain. My doctor prefers Elavil, but at this point, I am not willing to trade pain for the side effects of weight gain, fogginess, dry mouth, and sexual apathy. I know many of you are on Cymbalta. Can anyone explain the differences among the anti-dep. drugs? Is there one that is close to Elavil but without the undesirables? Thank you! Becky Everyone is raving about the all-new Yahoo! Guest guest
One thing that has helped with the initial sugary carb cravings that I had on elavil was to have fruit on hand and to start eating it BEFORE my cravings for other things (chocolate chip cookies were #1 on my list) became uncontrollable. I kept grapes, apples, pears, etc. around and that also helped with the constipation that comes along with elavil. Also, be ABSOLUTELY SURE to drink 8 glasses of water per day AND to get enough fiber. L > Hi, all, > I am considering trying an anti-depressant for treatment of pain. Guest guest
I gained 12 pounds on Elavil even with going to the gym 5 times a week. I'm onlyl 5 feet tall so it was a lot for me. It increased my sugar and salt cravings too. Sherri -------------- Original message ---------------------- > I really like Elavil for my pain. It has helped alot. Guest guest
All I want to eat lately are donuts, pizza and chocolate! I always have liked foods like this but usually eat more lean meat and salads. I also think my emotional state contributes to craving those foods. Im 5 9' so my body can usually gain weight and it not be noticable but this time it went straight to my stomach. The thing is though..Id rather not be in pain and gain weight than be in pain and be skinny. (for now)...but it still sucks.Shopper56@... wrote: I gained 12 pounds on Elavil even with going to the gym 5 times a week. I'm onlyl 5 feet tall so it was a lot for me. Guest guest
I always had a sweet tooth and the Elavil made it worse. I don't usually crave salt and I was eating tons of salty cashews. They were great!! I started on 20mg with no side effects or cravings and went up to 50mg. Good luck with it. Guest guest
First - how one person reacts to a drug isn't necessarily how the next person will react. So you may well take what the docs prescribe and never have any of the listed side effects, or you may take it and have effects that aren't listed. It depends on your individual chemical make up.You can google each antidpressant out there, and 99% of them will show dry mouth, sweating, fatigue, sexual dysfunction and tons of other side effects which MAY occur in an individual. I have friends who have never had a bit of trouble on these drugs and friends who decided it was not for them. Good luck - I hope you get some pain relief. For lots of info - go to these two places and read: http://www.rcpsych.ac.uk/mentalhealthinformation/mentalhealthproblems/depression/antidepressants.aspx http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_antidepressants Everyone is raving about the all-new Yahoo! Guest guest
No, I cannot explain the differences. I can only tell myexperience. Elavil..made me a zombie and caused weight gain. Cymbalta made me sick physically. Lyrica works for me...my weight holds steady. And I am hoping to get some of the gained weight off. love, ML Hi, all, I am considering trying an anti-depressant for treatment of pain. Thank you! .. Guest guest
I was on Cymbalta for awhile and I could not function on it. I was sooooooooo tired, I just could not do anything around the house or at my office. All I wanted to do was sleep. > > ML, > > How did Cymbalta make you sick? Guest guest
Cymbalta caused terrible intestinal problems...dont want to get graphic LOL. Lyrica took a few weeks and kicked in...I actually was able after a few months to eliminate the second dosage of 75 mg at night. And flipped the morning dosage of 150 mg to a nighttime dosage. This made my daily dosage only one 150 mg pill. I hate taking any meds. I am grateful this works for me. When I am stressed, I notice the symptoms. Love, ML <<How did Cymbalta make you sick?
