Hi Cheryl,

Great news about learning how to play the clarinet! was excited

to hear the news. She has been practicing her French Horn over the holidays in

preparation for a music competition coming us soon.

Maybe we could get both and to perform for us at the convention

this year. :)

I understand your concern. Sorry I took a while to reply - busy with the

holidays, etc.

I have a 9 yr. old (girl) who has been on protropin rGH for 3 1/2 yrs. The

insert for protropin prescribing medication says: " Because protropin may

induce a state of insulin resistance, patients should be observed for

glucose intolerance. " This is something your endo is most certainly aware

of, as should you, given that your son has been on GH for 3 yrs. At each

check-up we have, there is also bloodwork done to check her glucose levels

and I am asked about any other symptoms that might indicate an insulin

resistance. So far we have had none.

I also agree with the other reply from this list that you received that

stated that if there is insulin resistance, the rGH is stopped and it

supposedly goes back to normal. I had heard that too, though I don't know

the source. We have no history of diabetes in either my or my husbands

families, so it is not a high risk for us, and this " diabetes issue " entered

so minutely in our rGH decision.

I'd get the exact name of the tests done in the 3 day hospital stay for

IGFTT...I've never heard of such a thing...what are they looking for, what

are they testing, why does it HAVE to be done in the hospital, etc.

The IGF stands for insulin growth factor but what is TT?

I could not find anything in my records regarding IGFTT - are you sure that

is the name? IGF -1 is a common test (insulin-like growth factor 1),

IGFBP-3 is common (insulin growth factor binding protein 3), a thyroid test

(T3 - triiodothyronine) is common, T4 (thyroxin) and others. There is also

a BG (Blood glucose) test, which may be something you may want to

specifically research and ask your doctor about given your(or your dr.'s)

concern about the insulin resistance. But no blood work we've had involved

a hospital stay!

I hope I've been of help, and I hope the time your son has been on rGH have

been successful so far!
