Guest guest
Hi All and a HUGE thankyou for all the good wishes, prayers and positive thoughts regarding Finlay and the g tube surgery - they must have worked because the surgery couldn't have gone better!!! As you know I was rather stressed out about the whole thing! The hardest bit was handing him over to the surgeons team and having to walk away. The surgeon came to find us after wards and told us the surgery had gone " extremely well " it had not taken as long as he had anticipated. We were able to go and be with Finlay in recovery - where he just slept and slept (morpheme). Back on the ward he woke up a couple of times and was in obvious discomfort/confusion but he quickly went back to sleep and when he woke up properly later that evening he was bright adn chirpy. We started to feeding him clear fluids throguh the tube the next day which he tolerated just fine and the day after that we started on pediasure - beginning with 20mls per hour and by the end of the day he was having 60ml bolus feeds and had 50mls per hour o/n on hte pump. He came off the IV the next morning and was running around the childrens ward - you would NEVER have guessed what he had just been through...even the nurses were impressed at how quickly he had bounced back so his reputation on the ward as a bit of a trooper was upheld!! Anyway we are home now 4 days after the surgery and Finlay is just as bright and chirpy ahd full of beans as he was before the 12th of December - I am so thrilled - I could never have even imagined it going as well as it has. He has a few stitches which have to come out after Christmas. The surgery was done laproscopically ( key hole surgery) so he will have hardly any scars - just 3 tiny incisions and of course ultimatly there will be a mark where the tube has been when it comes out. Its summer here now and we always spen Christmas at the beach with Finlays cousins - the surgeon has said it will be fine for him to go in the sea and play in the sand after Christmas!!!! Anyway sorry to be so long but I know there are others out there with G-tube surgery already scheduled and otheres who are considering it for their children - so I thought it might help to know just how well this had gone for Finlay. Also so far so good on the no vomiting front - the Nissan procedure seems to have worked and although here have been several occasions where previously Finlay would definatley have vomited - so far he hasn't!!! so we are crossing our fingers that our vomiting days are gone as well as our nose hose days!!! Anyway thanks again for all your reassuring emails, thgouhts and prayers - I really appreciated them and it really helped on the 12th just knowing that lots of people were thinking about us!! Oh one more thing - it is SOOOOO nice to be able to take FInlay to the supermarket and not have people stare and ask about the tube in his nose!! Best Wishes to all and Finlay the trooper!!!
