Guest guest
I'm been on the SCD diet since Jan 08. In Nov 07 I had a colonoscopy. My doctor said my entire large intestine was inflamed and that I had colitis and possibly crohn's. I was 80% to 90% better last year on the diet. No diarrhea, some bloody mucus on the stool, occasional cramps but otherwise good. Really good actually. Felt better than I had in a while. So I know the diet is right for me. Over the past few months I started to have problems. Constipation for days followed by occasional lose stool or diarrhea, more blood on stool. I realized I'd made some mistakes on the the diet - too much honey, bananas, cheese, fruit and almond bread and not enough vegetables. I have a real sweet tooth which is what I think got me in this predicament in the first place. Also I made a mistake a month or two ago and began eating a lot of raisins, hoping it would help the constipation. That didn't work out too well. This is where I think my problem really started. Thinking the constipation could be from yeast, I decided to cut out all honey, cheese and bananas. Then I added Candex and S. Boulardii. Candex has since added rice flour which makes it illegal but I happened to find some that still had the older formula. This was about two weeks ago. Right away I had real bad die off - flu like symptoms, headaches, etc. Then I started having pain in my lower right side. Not acute just dull usually after I ate and some dull pain in my abdomen. I also started getting a lot of gurgling from my stomach which I haven't had before. My stools got thinner( which I realize is inflammation) and they had more blood on them. Thinking I'd gone too fast with the yeast free diet I stopped the Candex and the S. Boulardii a week ago. On wednesday I got diarrhea. I started the intro on Friday and since then my diarrhea has gotten worse; watery multiple times a day. Right now I'm eating hamburger patties, boiled chicken, lots of chicken soup, cheesecake and jello made from Knudsens Just Concord and a few eggs which I stopped today. Could this have anything to do with yeast die off? I'm thinking adding ripe bananas and apple sauce, and maybe a little yogurt tomorrow to see if I can slow down the diarrhea. Right now I've given up on dealing with any yeast issues until I can resolve the diarrhea. Once that stops I plan on restarting the diet. Only this time I plan on eating more vegetables( pureed for a good while) and continuing to cut out the honey, almond bread and most fruits except maybe an occasional banana. Any suggestions? Also my doctor wants me to have another colonoscopy, even though the last time I saw her I was doing fine. Of course she told me diet has nothing to do with Crohn's. I wondering if I should do it to make sure everything is okay or just ride it out for a few weeks and see if the SCD diet gets things back under control? I can't say I'm crazy about the idea of another colonoscopy. Thanks, Steve Colitis/Crohn's Nov 07 SCD Diet Jan 08 No Meds
