Hi All,

Tomorrow is the big day.. the myo surgery and I am trying to be as calm as

possible. Thank you to all who have provided encouragment and suggestions

on the surgery and recovery period.

I spent this weekend -- one day at least, at a spa, while my husband went

off to the Hibernian Society (Irish Society) and I enjoyed an evening just

relaxing and pampering myself. I called him and while at his meeting, said

that Mrs. Fibroidian was calling. I think this explains it all, since it is

all encompassing and takes over our entire being.

Tonight, I will celebrate the final removal of the fibroids, so that I can

start a new stage of life and hope that it (they) do not reoccur. I wanted

to let all who are going to surgery know what I have learned these last few

weeks for the hospital stay and recovery period. I am bringing the

following items for the pre-operation: Headphones and CD player with soft

music, eyeguards, so that I can relax, chap stick to hydrate my lips and a

facial cloth to refresh me. My overnight bag includes: 2 different types of

nightgowns (two piece with loose draw string and comfortable one piece),

along with my robe and slippers. In my bag, I also have toiletries, besides

the usual, I am bringing a soft aromotherapy scent for my room to calm me

afterwards, and other eyeguards (in case they lose the first) and crackers..

in case I get sick.. I really don't care for the hospital types. And most

importantly, my special neck pillow and knee support pillow (which I

purchased for $19.00 in a Medical Supply Shop), which will prevent me from

sleeping on my side (even though I know that the hospital bed does move in

all shapes, but just to be sure). I also asked my husband to bring me books

on tape. And finally, my stuffed bunny from HS, to give me comfort through

this ordeal.

As for the worst part, I am told that getting up is the hardest after 24

hours and it helps if before you get out of bed, to lift your legs to your

chin, and slowly roll over. So, I hope my preparations will suffice and

help me and hopefully some others to get through this ordeal.

Will keep you posted on if I did indeed forget anything. Any advise on

recovery is appreciated.

All my best and tuning off... am scared, but will go in with, as I told my

Dr., Cheery Eyes, instead of weepy eyes.

Until I write again,

Dolores
