High doses of bc pills are the one thing that slows down and even stops for a while the massive bleeding and blood clots. I took them for 3 weeks so I could build up my blood from being very anemic, but they made me feel horrible nauseous, wanting to eat everything that wasn¹t nailed down despite the nausea (I gained about 5 pounds in the 3 weeks), and they made me so irritable and depressed that I decided they weren¹t worth risking my marriage for... So I¹m off them now, starting to bleed more and more... If I start gushing again or passing huge clots I¹ll go back on them. At 41(am 43 now) I was diagnosed with fibroids but I'm sure, because of some 'episodes' of pain I'd had off and on the year before that indicate a twisted pedunculated fibroid, I'd had them for at least a year before that. Whether or not the bc contributed to them I can't say, but I know that by being on them, my estrogen levels were kept more even through the month and excess bleeding kept to a minimum. My periods were also starting to get longer, starting early and going for sometimes 12-14 days but manageable over the previous year or so. Then last spring though, I had a five day hemorrhage episode with huge clots. Could barely leave the bathroom much less the house for 5 days. After talking to both my gp and 2 gyn specialists, one of whom will do my myo next week (May 5th) I decided to stay on the pill all four weeks and didn't have a period from June 02 to this past Feb. (I started taking the week off to see what they'd be like because I knew I'd need to go off for the surgery.) They are relatively normal but for a few days of anticipatory cramps and bloating. Yes I've put on a bit of weight with the bc but at least I can leave the house and live a relatively normal life...My 16 week 'tummy' is my only obvious symptom at this point. And it was growing at the same rate more or as as before I went on bc full time. IMHO there are too many women who have never been on the pill who have fibroids to make this any more of a common denominator than heredity or diet or other factors as far as I can tell. If it means you can go out to work, take care of your kids and not worry about flooding or the like, then it's a fair trade off, since no one is yet certain they'll get worse on bc. One comment about ortho-tricyclen. I was initially put on Demulen. I thought maybe the occasional headaches I was getting were tied to the bc but when my doc switched me to ortho-tricyclen, my periods were hugely heavier. This is in my pre-fibroid days. I couldn't believe the difference and I still got the headaches so I went back to the demulen. I can't tell you how sorry I feel for you ladies who have to make such sacrifices to your lifestyle because of the fibroids. It's affected my life and my self-esteem appearance wise, but I'm able to function normally on a day to day basis. You have my utmost respect for perservering. BIRTH CONTROL PILLS I wanna go on bith control pills. I was told it could make me worse (by ) or it may NOT make me worse. What do you gals think? I have a latex sensitivity. Her Crohn's is in remission and she hasn't complained about pain or burning in months. She has no problem with the exams even with a speculum (did I spell that right?) So far...............so good!!! If you talk to one doctor they say that birth control is a contributor and others will say there is no difference. I had been on birth control on and off over the last few years. I stopped, thinking that it might help clean out my system and I feel exactly the same. I really think it depends on you and how your body reacts to the medication. The vestibulitis is so unpredictable ... it is hard to life your life around it. My husband hates latex condoms and so do I so we use naturalamb trojan condoms. They're awesome. Guest guest Posted January 10, 2007 Report Share Posted January 10, 2007 i am also on birth control pills. i have been on them for about 8 years. last year, for one month, i didn't get my pills in the mail in time and had to skip a month and wait til the next cycle. for that month, while i wasn't on the pill, my vvs was non-existent for the entire week i ovulated. it was wonderful. the next month i went back on birth control and it has been there ever since with a vengence. i plan on going back off the pill in february (i have to stay on it because i just had radiation and i have to be on bc for a full 6 months). anyway, i can't wait. i'm hoping that the vvs goes away during ovulation week again. even if it's only one week a month, i'll take it. it's better than nothing.so yeah, i think being on the pill has a lot to do with vvs. ~ ~ __________________________________________________ Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
