I just finished my first reading of "Life without bread" by Christian B. Allan and Wolfgang Lutz. I know if I had read it 5 years ago when I just started SCD I wouldn't have understood the technical details as well as I do now. But I found the chapters on energy utilization to be extremely clear and very helpful.

Indeed, I just ordered my own copy of the book so I can reread the explanations and perhaps get the nutrition processes more clear in my mind. I am also struggling with neurological issues that appear to be mitochondrial in cause, so I have been working to better understand how the body processes food to generate energy in order to cope better with my own metabolism. Allan & Lutz's explanations are very helpful to me.

I am still contemplating what I learned from Allan & Lutz, but I think their ideas mesh quite well with Elaine's ideas.

I really appreciate the 72 grams of carbs per day concept. I have to keep my fat and fiber intake down to a certain amount per day to keep my dysfunctional Sphincter of Oddi working, so keeping my carbs below a certain amount per day is part of my management solution. Actually, I think my digestion does better when I keep my carbs down to about 50 grams per day, but the 72 gram/day is still a wonderfully clear and simple goal to reach.

There is so much to understand about nutrition and health.
