I admit I agree with this. When I was 14 I passed out with crippling pelvic pain. I had never been sexually active (although there WAS sexual abuse by my stepfather at the time), but when I was rushed to the ER they mentioned a possible ectopic pregnancy. My mom was pretty messed up, and she started to describe in graphic, gory detail a pelvic exam, saying it was " embarassing and uncomfortable. " Thank God the ER doc was kinder and gentler to me than she was, he refused to do the exam despite her pushing because, " MAYBE SHE NEEDS TO SEE WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT IF SHE THINKS SHE'S SO GROWN UP. " I have panic attacks going to the gyn now and also break out in a rash all over my body. I never got the follow-up I needed and I know now that that day was the start of my cycle of painful ovarians cysts that lasted for almost 15 years.
