I fall in to the category of women that have had to deal with

HPV and I've never had sex.

There was something mentioned a while back (and Dee you may be

more familiar with the article than I am if you have it in your

stash) that said that HPV is also thought to sometimes be part

of the vulvodynia process in particular vulvar vestibulitis for

some women.

As one girl that used to post to this list regularly said one

could get HPV just by using a wet towel (meaning used by someone

with HPV to dry off). How likely that is though I don't know

but she did mention that it can be possible.

One would have to check the archives for the older discussions

about HPV to see how exactly she worded it.

Kristy :)

I've met the woman who was instrumental in developing the vaccine. I

saw the results of her research at a presentation she gave to a

cancer cinical group here. There is nothing to fear from this

vaccine, it's nothing but positive.

HPV is everywhere. It isn't just passed on via sex. It's transmitted

with any kind of touch. It's been around with humans for as long as

there have been humans. There are over 200 strains we have just co-

evolved with it.

I recently found out that the 'jackalope' is real. The rabbit is

infected with a strain of HPV that causes large wart like growths on

it's head. They have also found HPV dna in samples from dinosaurs.

HPV needs to be put into perspective. It's not a new sexually

transmitted disease, it's been around forever. What is new, is the

ability to prevent a really nasty cancer. There is nothing to loose.

The research up to date shows no negative side effects with this

vaccine.

Just my $0.02. :)

Just my opinion....but hasn't experience taught us it is only a matter of

time before negative side effects begin to surface?

" nothing to fear from this vaccine " seems like an optimistically premature

statement....even for those who are 'pro' vaccine.

imo

The vaccine is only designed for treating 4 different kinds of

strains of HPV. It doesn't stop the other 196 different

strains.

Also, for someone who has had HPV the vaccine won't help. And

then there are some like me who have specific reasons for not

getting it besides age (I am over 25).

And of course there's something to be scared about this shot

which is why I won't take it even if it was designed to help

thosse over 25. And the biggest reason is my health but for

others it may be another reason.

That's why I said I will be interested to see what the results

of this shot is in 2 years.

Things can change in a period of two years.

Not all the strains cause cervical cancer or genital warts.

Some can have it and not have either of these things happen.

That's where I fell.
