Hi Kym, Welcome to our group.

You will find that things are different from each medical center. Some have more requirements than others. You just need to go by what your area tells you to do. Here it is really a great place to share the information and ask lots of questions

Hi Kym,

welcome to the group. I am new myself and am loving all the information I am getting.

I am going through the program at Kaiser in Fontana. We have to do a 12 week class where the dietary information and psych information are all included. We meet individually and in class sessions with an MD, a dietitian and a psychiatrist.

Wow

I just got off the phone with the phyciatric dept and was told patients for WLS were not required to get an evailuation anymore. I am finding that a bit strange to say the least. But if they want to eliminate another obstacle for me then by all means... :)Kym

Thanks for the welcome. Also to everyone who welcomed me as well!

I was just amazed that I didnt have to see the Dietitian or the

Phyciatrist, since I was told by my PCP that I would. But when I

called the Kaiser appt line to make the appointments I was told that

Kaiser doesnt require it anymore. Guess it was my lucky time.

Was kind of stressing out about going to see a shrink anyway. They

say when your insane you dont know it... lol

I am in Nor Cal... I was worried that I hadn't had a psych evaluation

so I called the SSF location today (I'm already approved) and they

said my PCP may have filled out the info they needed. They said they

may or may not do an additional one after my physician consult. Okee

dokee... seems like they are tweaking it to get the process

smoother... works for me.

As far as I know, they are still doing the surgery in San Diego. My class is with Dr. Salamaa and my PCP is Dr. son. So far I like them both. Thanks for the info.

Hi and

welcome, Kym. I live in Southern

Orange County and am scheduled for surgery on September 21 at Pacific

Bariatrics in San Diego. It’s true

that Kaiser no longer requires the Psych and Dietician work-ups, but once you

are approved PB will schedule you for 3 consultations in San Diego – Psych,

Internist, and Surgeon. They are

all in one day, and I found the experience, except for the travel, very

non-stressful. The Psych I saw was

a delightful older woman—I know they use several to do their consultations, so

you may not get the same person, but it really was not stressful.

I’ll be

glad to shadow you as you move along in the process, since I will be just 2 or

3 months ahead of you. Feel free

to contact me directly if you have specific questions.

All best

in you journey,

Pat
