Guest guest
Roxanna, can you explain why the T3 helps with sleep? Does it help you stay asleep, or go to sleep? Guest guest
I think the T3 helps me to stay asleep throughout the night by helping to eliminate the RLS of hypothyroidism. The T3 keeps my metabolism and enzymes chugging away all night long. Without an overnight dose right now I fall back into a hypothyroid state by morning. My Armour level is not optimized as yet. Later on if and when I convert enough T4 to T3 I may not need the nighttime Cytomel. It may even start keeping me awake. As for falling asleep, I am not sure whether it is that my adrenals are actually better, or whether being at this level of thyroid is better for my adrenals. The two are so inter-related. Regardless of which way, I have been able to eliminate the nighttime 2.5 mg of HC and easily fall asleep. Guest guest
Could it be that the extra cortisol you were making was over-utilizing the thyroid hormone you had taken earlier, and it took the little bit of thyroid hormone to keep everything normal during the night. Cortisol puts it into the cells, and if there's no thyroid hormone coming behind it, it's used up and gone. It probably just took that little bit of thyroid hormone at bedtime to make up the difference. Re: High cortisol at night > Here is my experience: ( sorry for the running at the mouth, but it's complicated. Initially this helped everything. BUT, all three returned at different times. I started taking an extra 2.5 mg before bed. This helped to fall asleep. For a while it helped the 3-4 AM stuff which then turned into a 5-6 AM thing, regardless, so I started taking another 2.5 mg then. This would cause me to go right back to sleep and feel very refreshed upon waking. Better than ever. So I was at a total of 25 mg a day. > > But during that time I also started taking a bit of thyroid before bed for the restless uncomfortable body thing, you know? Often I do not wake up even once during the night. It's sort of an unbelievable feeling to wake up and see daylight already there! I feel refreshed when I wake. Guest guest
That's exactly what happens to me, if I don't take extra thyroid right on going to bed. Of course, I'm a night worker, teehee, so that could be the difference. Maybe, at this point in life, my adrenals might actually be finally trying to do what they're supposed to, and here I am working at night and won't let them! Re: High cortisol at night > First you are on your left side...no good...try on the belly,...no good....how about with one leg up....nope....turn the head....nope, no help.....onto other side....still bad....return onto back.....wrong....fluff pillow......nope....punch pillow....better.....nope, wrong again....onto left side again.....:-( Does this sound familiar? And all the while you might feel like your legs need to go out and have a good run! > > That pinch of T3 has eliminated that...for now. > > Roxanna
Guest guest
Yes, a definite other possibility. That's why one can only go by trial and error sometimes because one doesn't know if it's the chicken or the egg that came first! The only thing I know, right now, is that I am balanced, right now. Tomorrow, next week? Who knows. I think I was complaining just last week about being unbalanced....I am liking THIS week much better! We have a LONG distance seminar to go to later in the month. It's about 4-5 hours away and lasts all day. Of course I am concerned about being able to handle such a day and all the excitement. The last seminar in July I didn't do so well afterwards. Guest guest
It seemed to work pretty well for me as long as I was on it (9 months). But didn't last. I'm taking phosphatidylserine complex now. But still waiting for a change! in Va. Both. If cortisol is too high at night, there are some folks who will take cortisone in the morning to retrain the body to NOT to produce so much at night. Don't know if it works---maybe someone here can report if it worked for them. Jaine
