I am so sorry to hear that kind of news. What a shame indeed. *sigh* I can imagine you're in shock, it always is esp. with someone so young and in such a way. Its infuriating to say the least.

I don't mean to change the subject so forgive me but this has been stuck in my craw for a while and just letting it out, it was the same with that ( s son at 20) It was such a shock regardless of what one might think of her it was terrible.

I've just been following so many senseless deaths for a few years such as those in young people and am no longer surprised when they find either illicit drugs as in your neighbor if that's what it was, but even more so are the 'legal' antidepressants or combinations of them in so many of them. I just go ballistic when I hear of our kids on those and so many have been in these crazy eratic kids and school shootings when they do the autopsy's. I don't know who to get more angry at, the physicians or the parents who agree. *sigh*

In that s case from what I can gather and thought of immediately myself and is what Cyril Wecht (well known forensic pathologist) found was the combination of Lexapro & Prozac, the two drugs can be fatal when taken together and he also had methadone in him. (used for pain they said).

One can just drop dead of a heart attack with that Serotonin Syndrome from those. *sigh* (if I'm not mistaken I think you either had that or know about it Dusty) When one dies of Serotonin Syndrome it is generally caused by multiple organ failure as the organs simply clamp up and shut down.

All the drug companies ever want to discuss are low levels of serotonin, not what happens when the serotonin levels become too high and there is really no way of knowing how it will affect a person. *sigh*

I am so sorry to hear of your young friend. It is such

a waste and tragedy.

Last year my friend's 22 year old grandson hung

himself in his mother's basement. He had been arrested

for possession of drugs and couldn't face the terrible

consequences that this society would put upon him.

Since drug addiction is a medical problem often with

no help, no medical insurance, no decent

rehabilitiation programs and it is so criminalized,

there is little help for people who would like to get

off the drugs. As long as we criminalize medical

problems in this country we will have these tragedies

year after year. Our prisons are full of drug addicts

and the mentally ill. We need to stop doing this

terrible thing to them and we need to see this problem

for what it is--a serious medical problem that is

enlarged because of the way this society deals with

it.

I am so sorry for your neighbors' tragedy and yours.

Oops, I think I accidentally sent a blank email... my apologies.

I read those articles and that is scary, especially for someone taking a lot of different medications at once.

I had a scare last time I took azithromycin on top of desipramine, allegra, and a very strong decongestant...I esperienced tachycardia, vertigo, shortness of breath, chest pains, all of that... very freaky. I don't think the doc who prescribed the antibiotic even asked what other medications I was taking. So, it's interesting to see that erythromycisn (which I can't take because it always makes me nauseus) on top of other meds like yeast meds can cause sudden death.

I was even concerned because the desipramine gives me a rapid heartbeat and trouble sleeping.. on the internet it says desipramine alone can and has caused sudden death. That might be why the pharmacist looked horrified when I told her I was supposed to take up to 150mg of it.

I think combining desipramine with allergra and sinuvent already is like taking three medications that raise the heartrate all at once.
