Guest guest
Hi Jen, I can relate to your problem. I have an 7.2 cm fibroid (was told like the size of a small orange), discovered last 7/02. Like you I am asymptomatic but our main difference is that of the 3 doctors I have consulted, they all agree that it is not medically necessary to get it taken out at this time. When this was diagnosed last July, the fibroid was measured at 5.8 cm. And on the latest pelvic u/s, then discovered that it has grown to 7.2 - in a matter of 6 mos. I am scheduled to have a pelvic sonogram this time on May 2 - to find out if it has grown any further. My doctor said that I should not be concerned because a difference of 1 cm can be also mean being interpreted differently by the technician doing the tests. My only fear is up to what point should I wait? until I start heavy bleeding ? what if it grows a lot bigger and still not feel any symptoms - should I still adopt the wait and see attitude ? I am 39 yrs old and menopause is not around the corner. Can you pls tell me what you decide if you are going for the myomectomy ? Can UAE be applicable in this situation ? keep in mind I have no symptoms whatsoever except a bulge in my lower abdominal area. Thanks, Nida
Guest guest
At age 39 if it were me I would do something sooner, rather than later. I think that as we are closer to menopause our hormones start to fluctuate more and increased estrogen can lead to fibroid growth. If you do decide to have UAE I think that your results will be better if you start with a smaller fibroid. > Hi Jen, > > I can relate to your problem. Guest guest
Is 7.2 still considered small for UAE consideration ? or is my only chance myomectomy at this point ? rule out resection - I considered that as my first option.

Guest guest
I too like Nida have a fibroid that has grown from 5 cm to 7 cm in less than a year. I have a smaller fibroid that has stayed at about 2 cm. I am 35 years old and had been first diagnosed with fibroids in 1997 during an annual exam. I haven't had any symptoms before but I am now starting to experiencing a pain in my lower back that at times makes it difficult to twist to the right. I've also have been getting very, very tired. Practically dragging myself through the day no matter how much sleep I had gotten the night before. I have an appointment with my gyno on April 30th to go over my options. I've found a wealth of information in this group and I feel that I will be better prepared when I meet with him. My game plan before was to wait and see what they do but now I'm worried that the fibroids are starting to cause problems. What is considered an excessive growth rate in fibroids? Thanks again to everyone for your help. Danni
Guest guest
Hi Danni, I used to have lower back pain last year until I took yoga. yoga helped tremendously - the pain disappeared after only 3 mos. i strongly suggest you do it. Guest guest
At one time I did practice yoga on a regular basis but I'm sorry to say that I haven't been doing it as much as I used to. I've definitely got to get back into it. About a year ago I started having a dull pain in my lower back on the right side. I had thought that maybe I had strained myself somehow and didn't do anything about it. A few weeks later I had a urinary tract infection that seemed to come from nowhere. Usually I can tell when they're starting but not this time. It started during the moring. By early afternoon I noticed blood in my urine. I called my gyno and the CNP said I had a " really good one " this time and to come in and they would give me medication for a UTI and well as have me give them a sample. By the time I got to the office I was bleeding more heavily and in a lot of pain. The medication worked and the back pain subsided. What bothered me was that when the test results came back the CNP had said that I didn't have a UTI but asked if I was feeling better. I didn't think much of it at the time as I was swamped at work, it was during tax season when this happened. I'm wondering if the fibroids are pushing up against something.
