Mara,

It's fun to travel (especially when visiting another SCD house so I don't

have to watch everything I eat) but it's also good to get back

home.

In fact, we hadn't been home an hour when Mom called to say Daddy was

taking her to the emergency room. (Both told me to stay and get some

sleep.)

I heard from Dad this morning. Mom is in ICU, although she was physically

still in the emergency room because they didn't yet have an ICU bed for

her. She was given a unit of blood, which suggests that her hematocrit

must have been quite low, and Dad said her BP was quite low most of the

night -- like around 80/45.

I did talk to her and she was lucid -- lucid enough to complain that

every time she got to sleep, they came and did something and woke her

up.

I flinch on the diverticulitis issue whenever I hear about the fiber,

fiber, fiber (and especially grains, and that dang soluble fiber) that so

many practitioners push -- because that's what my grandmother did, and it

didn't save her. Mom won't do SCD because it's too hard, and she'd have

to give up so much stuff. I am so profoundly grateful that my sister and

I found SCD!

All prayers, good thoughts, and Pink Lights

are welcome.

I have not heard from Jodi off-list, and I admit, I'm worried about her,

too. I was able to skim a few messages on my sister's computer while I

was up there, but didn't really have time to do much answering. I hope we

hear from her soon.

Hi Terry,

Very interesting that you digressed- I appreciate it as your experience is very

informative. Not to get too much into my sob story; I had -horrible- sackie

which rendered me incapable of swallowing. My health went from bad to worse.

Right after that- I had impacted wisdom teeth (which needed to be removed but

because the impaction was so severe they needed to treat me first) which lead me

to take Clindamycin for a month which almost killed me giving me what they think

of as C Diff. I was hospitalized for a month- no food, isolated room getting

units of blood. I was on so many antibiotics during that time that it is a

miracle I am alive really.

About a year or so ago I found out that I am suspect for Lyme but am positive on

all Co-infections legal to test in NY State. I am not doing the antibiotic

route as I feel I will not be able to tolerate long term antibiotics.

In the ER in Israel they gave me antibiotics " just in case " since my WBC was

through the roof (all other hema blood values were great and Anemia was not

present at all) not sure if pancreatitis can cause an elevated WBC- makes sense

that it would. Getting that one dosage of antibiotics in the hospital caused me

horrible anal leakage.

Needless to say I am happy I did not go the antibiotic route for the Lyme Co

issues. Lyme is super mysterious and chronically ill can come up pos for

co-infections.

It is hard to know how to proceed with all of these various critters, bacteria

and viruses. It is no wonder I have been so sick.

I am hoping to get more info from my GI and integrative doc as I am so not in

the mood to do any research right now. I just want to focus on making my own

food.

Anyway, thanks for being so supportive.

Jodi

gay sent me your list of soft foods for your hospital stay.

what do you think about juicing?

i have been using diluted pineapple/spinach juice very well strained and it was

agreeing with me. i thought it would be a good source of nutrients.

i cannot do my iv's at my integrative docs office in the next 10 days because my

veins are a mess and they may need to do a central line for the surgery and

hospital stay. i would like to avoid this. my integrative doc will give me

some vitamin/mineral/amino's in IM in my arm as don't have a good track record

with my butt since it hit a nerve last tiem.

i try to stay away from juicing cruciferous veggies because it's not good for

thyroid issues and i am very hypothyroid. i have not taking my trhyoid meds

since being here- self explainitorryy.

it's interesting- my integrative doc says she now understands why some foods

sometimes agree with me and other times dont (same for supplemets and meds) she

thinks the strictures get cranky. asparagus sometimes causes no issues

whatsoever. neeedless to say, my replationship is parted for now LOL.

need rto eat a bit more now.

tahnks for your help.

Jody,

I think juicing is great, although I would stay away from too much fruit

and too many high carb vegetables, as a heavy-duty hit of even legal

carbs can cause issues... and with juicing, you remove the solids which

would slow down absorption. You want to absorb all the good nutrients,

but you want to be careful on too many carbs.

Between juicing various vegetables, and doing meat/ broth/ vegetable

smoothies, you should get plenty of good nutrition in you!

I know you are not happy with needing the surgery, but you know, Elaine

said that sometimes, surgery is necessary to give you a clean slate,

since even SCD can't completely repair all the strictures and other

scarring which can take place.

I understand veins which are a mess -- mine always roll away from the

needle and they end up sticking me 3-6 times for everything. And my Mom

had three IVs in her in hospital, plus they were coming in every 4 hours

to take blood samples (something to do with the enzymes in her blood

which told how she was doing on her heart attack) and that didn't help

either. So you fer SHURE have my sympathy!

I think it's absolutely fabulous that you are now at a point in four days

that took four weeks pre-SCD. And yes... I looked at what they were

feeding my Mom in the hospital, and just shuddered. To me, it wasn't real

food at all!

Go eat, and get stronger!

Thanks Marilyn..

I will hold off on the juicing.

My feet totally expanded from the IV's. It's hard to put my shoes on- can't

wait to get home but my husband wants me to wait so I don't feel nauseas and get

my IV saline and steroids so I don't have to take any pills tonight.

He's right, I usually rush my way out of here and leave AMA. LOL.

Not funny really.

I wish they could just tell me what the heck this unidentified mass is. They

can't through blood test markers with what I have.

Pre-Cancer isn't great either.

Thanks.. Sorry for being a bit all over teh place.

Jodi

Watching the TV show Northern Exposure does wonders in the hospital. I wonder

how many writers they had on that show. Really talented folks.
