Guest guest
Well, I know it sounds too simple and crazy but the PA at my office told me when I first started the taxol that if I had numbness and tingling in fingers and toes to take Vitamin E daily, 400 IUs , and that may help. Plus it is said to help with hot flashes. It has helped me with both side effects. If I miss taking it one day I can tell, I just get slight numbness , and then I take it. It has really helped me! It is worth a try! Love,
Guest guest
I didn't take have Taxol but a lot of the other ladies did. Now I am not a dr or even a pharmacist so this is just telling you what WE have been told to do. We were told for severe pain of any kind we could take 3 Tylenol or 3 Advil. Its always best to check with your dr or even call the pharmacist. I will keep you in my prayers. Well yesterday evening I had aches in my knees and elbows ( nothing terrible just minor aches). Today I get the occational joint aches in my elbows and others joints but by 6 pm my feet hurt so bad I can hardly walk. I feel like I walked several miles bare foot on rocks. Before the treatment tuesday my doctor told me to take tylenol or advil for joint discomfort. They don't seem to be working. Is this normal? Guest guest
Yes, it normal. Its not dumb. Everyone reacts differently. Everybody told me that A/C is so much worse than taxol as I was finishing my A/C. I got through the A/C with just some nausea. Well I thought I was crazy when I had so many body aches and pains with Taxol that I needed to take percocet, and that just deadened but didn't get rid of all the pain. Some of it was very sharp too, not just achy. It lasted 3-4 days each time (the first was worse than the last, if that's any consolation). If I needed more than 4 treatments I would have asked to switch to something else. Ask your Dr. for something stronger to take when needed. My Dr. said some people even need morphine. That made me feel better. As for your feet, its neuropathy. I had my last taxol on Aug. 1st and my feet are still numb most of the time. It varies in intensity. My mother got it very bad from oxaliplatin to treat colon cancer. But the dr. warned us, and said it doesn't always go away. Most will tell you that it will go away in 6-8 months. I hope they are right. Good luck Dianne p.s. 4 weeks after finishing taxol my nails are just now starting to fall off. Its bizarre. I remember reading something about this a while back. Is there any way to stop this besides krazy glue? and is it common? alivnkickin08751 wrote: This going to sound dumb but I got my first Taxol on tuesday and I knew I'd sooner or later get joint pain. Guest guest
Ask your oncologists about taking Glutamin (supplement) during Taxol. It was recommended to me and helped, but even if he told me to take 40 bananas a day, I would have!!! XXOO
Guest guest
Regarding fingernails…I didn’t have Taxol or Taxotore (sp?)…but a week after I started the Arimidex all of my fingernails dented in at the bottom and about half of them torn horizontally in half. One thumb tore up the side…it was like my fingernails were suddenly paper thin. I’ve noticed the dents on my toenails, but none of them tore. I haven’t had a chance to see the onc yet to know if this is a side effect of Arimidex – or something left over from the a/c chemo. If it is, either, it’s almost over as the new growth seems to be ok. Re: Foot pain Yes, it normal. Its not dumb. Everyone reacts differently. Guest guest
Hmmmmm.... normal? I think we have all learned that there is no normal for these treatments. Each treatment can work differently with each person and each treatment can be different each time. Hopefully by now you have gotten an answer from your doctor... and that was really what you needed to do. I have learned with my center they are very proactive, very understanding and very quick to address each of my reactions. Sometimes it is try this to see if this works first, but if it doesn't they move on to something else. Although I did (do) have joint and muscle aches with the Taxotere, there are times I get up from a chair and walk like an old lady (ok, an older lady) until things get moving which is more than normal but it has been something that over the counter meds have taken care of. For me its the muscle spasms that I have to you muscle relaxants and Vicodin for, but only a couple days. I'm not sure if the Taxol has the same response as the Taxotere but what I noticed that was different between that and the A/C I had was that with A/C the reactions came sooner and lessened, with the Taxotere, I could get reactions right up until getting my next treatment, be fine the first 2 weeks after and by the third week other reactions (like the peripheral neuropathy) kicked in. I hope you heard back from your doctor and she was able to address your concerns AND you are feeling better. Others may have more immediate help for you and I'm sure they will help you out. Barb R. Guest guest
, I have had that recently due to the Taxotere, I think. I'm slowly losing one nail at a time. They are tearing horizontally and then when they grow back, they are weaker than before and tear again. I figure it will take a while but everything I've read says they should come back okay. I can live with that. Just a little depressing since I went into treatment until the Taxotere with the best nails, longest and all at the same time, I've ever had. Not a biggy, I'm not one to worry about how they look after years and years of being a very bad nail biter. Barb R. Michigan Re: Foot pain Yes, it normal. Its not dumb. Everyone reacts differently. Guest guest
I've had a hard time tracking down Glutamin in my local pharmacy stores, though I just saw that Costco's carries it.
