Guest guest
When I was on the SCD the first time a few years ago, it did not help my OCD. I felt better physically, but the only thing that has helped my OCD is SAMe (S-adenosyl methionine) supplementation and cognitive behavioral therapy sort of things and delaying responses (not sure exactly what you call this; it's been a while since I've actually read up on OCD, so I can't remember the terminology very well). The first book that ever helped me was BrainLock by Schwarz. OCD still gives me trouble sometimes when I'm stressed or I've had a larger allergic reaction to something I ate. (I think that histamine exacerbates it because on occasion during those allergic reactions, benadryl has helped the obsessing some). Anyway, I plan on starting SAMe again as soon as my daughter stops nursing. I have not found a good one that is SCD legal though. It is not a very stable compound and has to be blisterpacked for it to retain its effectiveness very well. For me, this may be one of those things that the benefits outweigh the small amount of starch in them. I need to call them though and make sure the source isn't something I'm allergic to. I was taking it the first time I was on SCD and seemed to do fine with it at the time bowelwise. BUT, that was me. Can't say how anyone else would react to it. Plus, SAMe can have negative effects for some people (especially with bipolar). I'm mostly obsessive and less compulsive (though I do have a few compulsions). There is a pretty decent website where people can discuss treatment options and what has worked and not work for them at (I think I have this right) stuckinadoorway.com (maybe org). Naturally, they get in a few arguments, but they do have some pretty good links to things that people find helpful (including one form a kundalini yoga which seems to get pretty good results -- but the DVD that teaches the technique is a fortune!).
