Elaine,

I honestly don't know what I have....I'm going to three different doctors (an internal medicine, an allergist and a dermatologist) and I think I get more confused as I go to more appointments. Originally, we thought it was a pregnancy rash called PUPP, but this type of rash is supposed to go away after I gave birth, but it never did. So...my dermatologist did a biopsy and the results came back as it being hives. Just recently, my allergist said he doesn't think they are hives because I told him that they don't go away after a day and he saw some scarring from where I had had more of this "stuff" on my ankles.

I'll try my best to describe what I have and if this sounds familiar to any of you please let me know. What usually happens is I'll get these little raised, red spots in an area. Within a day or two (depending if I can controll them with cream which is hit or miss) they seems to grow bigger and merge. Then it looks like I have a big raised welt mark. I get them all over usually on my hips, buttocks, back of thighs, ankles, elbows and the top of my arms (by my armpits). They do not go away over night, and can stay there for weeks. They generally pop up in these areas and go through these stages: 1) little raised red spot that are itchy 2) Big raised red welts (that are VERY itchy) 3) Lowered red patches that don't itch as much as they did before that looks like scars. They goes through these phases at different times on different parts of my body and generally affect both sides of my body at the same time. For example, I will get it on both sides of my hip or both ankles. For the most part, there hasn't been a time in the last 2 years where I haven't had these raised welts somewhere on my body.

I was shocked when the dermatologist said they were just hives, because I had developed an allergy to shrimp and what I experienced then is what I thought hives to be. My face got kind of swollen and itchy then I got these red spots down my back and chest that were extremely itchy! But yes, they did go away within a few hours. That is not what I have been experiencing with what I have now, but I am no doctor so I was utterly confused when the biopsy came as hives.

I will definitely try the Lotrimin AF. Gosh, if this makes these things go away I will be and heaven!! Thank you so much for your help and concern and taking the time to write me back!!!

Hugs,

Miki
