Guest guest
Tull, thank you for the information. Even though I asked, I guess I was hoping that everyone would say, Nah, you just imagined it. It is not a good feeling to think that yet another thing has been affected by my abuse. But owning it is important. I am, as I have told the groups, now a mental health professional and I work with many people who are in active additiction. I use self dissclosure alot with them and I can use this as yet another tool to say... " Do you really want this to happen to you? " Thank all of you for responding to my tangent and Tull, you are a sweet heart for the gentle way you presented it to me.

Guest guest
> I would like it if those who maade >reference to drug abuse causing pancreatitis would help me by >responding. I really would like to know where they heard it or read >it because I can't find reference to it. > Hi , all, There is some evidence in the medical literature that links drug abuse in general, and cocaine use in particular, to cases of pancreatitis. I've included a link to one such article below. Take it all with a " grain of salt " , though. This article, though relatively recent, still cites the #1 cause of chronic pancreatitis as being alcohol abuse. Also, in many studies from which data like this comes, the subjects are often " cross-addicted " , i.e., they have a history of abusing BOTH alcohol AND drugs, so it may be difficult to determine exactly which one may have led to the condition of pancreatitis. If they listed, say, cocaine use as their " drug of choice " , and then were diagnosed with pancreatitis, they were put in the " cocaine-induced pancreatitis " category. THe causative effect of alcohol leading to pancreatitis is well known. The mechanism by which drugs such as cocaine may lead to the same condition seems to be less well understood at this point. http://web2.chm.msu.edu//em/pancreatitis.html Hope this helps. --Tull
