First of all, ALL the symptoms you are describing have become so common in

the description of any and all of these drugs. If you look back, almost ALL

of the women, not only in this group, but in most complain about exactly the

symptoms you are talking about.

He may be top in your state, but along with credentials I would expect

sensitivity and compassion, especially when you are correct in your statements.

I

could forward you a dozen articles to confirm what you are feeling is so

common within women taking AI's and this certainly can make you feel better

knowing it's not all in your head. But without the support of #1 on your team,

I

just don't know what difference it would make. Will you ever feel the same

toward him? No one has the right to reduce anyone to tears and make them

feel foolish, regardless of their credentials.

The decision is yours, but if my oncologist were to behave in this fashion,

especially since these side effects are commonplace, I would probably look for

someone who would be more sensitive and compassionate to my needs.

Good luck and keep all of us informed.

Hi Everyone,

My love, prayers and healing for you all.

My oncologist put me on several different aromatase inhibitors all

of which have caused unpleasant side effects.

I have been on Arimidex, Femara and Aromasin. All caused

muscle/joint pain, lack of energy, occasional dizziness, and

generally feel like I'm 100 years old...(which I'm not...just 51

years). I told my oncologist about my symptoms and he said that my

symptoms were not from the A.I. drugs. I was wondering if anyone in

this group has experienced any of these symptoms while on any of the

A.I. drugs I have listed? I don't know whether to stay with this so-

called " top oncologist " in my state or not. I question whether he

knows much about the A.I. drugs I'm taking! He said to go to my

Internist and have bloodwork, ultrasound and colonoscopy done (which

I did) and all was normal. My breast cancer history was a

lumpectomy just over one year ago, negative lymph nodes, small tumor

(1 cm) with radiation.

This oncologist took care of my Dad when he had cancer of the

esophagas and was kind to him, but when I told him how awful I feel

on these drugs, he " implied " that he didn't believe my symptoms,

which made me cry in his office in front of him and he showed

absolutely no compassion!! What should I do? Should I find another

oncologist even though this is the top guy in this state? Should I

feel this bad while taking currently " Aromasin " ?

Thanks for reading this...

Tell your " top " oncologist to read the package insert for the

aromatase inhibitors. What you describe are all possible side

effects. Find an oncologist who specializes in breast cancer.

Dear ,

All those symptoms are perfectly well known side effects of all three of

those Aromatase inhibitors.

I took Aromasin for a few weeks, and told my nice oncologist that I was

suffering from joint pain; he said " Let's try the next one on the list -

Arimidex " and I've had that for three or four months now. This one gives me

a bit of joint pain but it's liveable with. He said that all the AIs cause

those side effects, but to different extents in different women; he's

willing to try each one to find the one which is best tolerated.

I'd like to tell your oncologist " Read the easily available information, and

try it on someone else - goodbye. " Maybe he's one of the old-fashioned ones

who believe that women's problems are all in our minds 8-( and if so then

you'd be better off with someone else.

Love,

Margery.

Hi ,

Thanks for your good wishes - right back at ya! Personally, I

would look for a new Oncologist. This guy certainly sounds like an

insensitive creep! I'm on Arimidex (or was until a couple of days

ago) and have similar side effects. The worst, for me was the

horrible indigestion. So my oncol is taking me off it for a few days

to see if that's what is causing it. I feel joint pain, tired in a

major way and, like I said, the indigestion. Your side effects are

right there on the printed sheet you get with your Rx. B/C is so

hard - if you don't feel comfortable with the care you are getting -

I would get someone who does care - and I believe they're out

there. You don't need to worry about " how's my Dr.s reaction going

to be?? " too! There's enough on your plate. Just my opinion. Hope

you are feeling better soon.

I am sorry your doc was not supportive.

Sometimes I think we all need a side effect list to post to daily to

tell what is going on with us that day-

My wrist hurts

my feet hurt

I am tired

whatever,

it matters to us everyday.

And we need to be able to share it.

We are not as we once were.

Then again I am grateful to be alive and feeling ANYTHING..

Being tired scares me,

thinking my cancer has come back and just not been found yet.

It is like a ghost in the closet that might be there but I can not see

it yet.

I will feel relief when my five years have passed.

And so glad to get off my meds and find out how hot am I really???

My friends have bought me fans for my purse LOL

I would not take that from any doctor, and believe me, I have shown my tail

enough.

I was lucky to have fallen in with a good oncologist. I feel that a good

doctor should show compassion and have some sort of bedside manner. Mine tried

to schedule my last mammogram himself.

AND, I also believe that if a doctor does not know the answer to a question

that is posed by a patient, he should SAY SO!

It took me joining this group 2-3 weeks ago that finally confirmed my

questions about

Arimidex. Three doctors and 2 1/2 yrs later.

Hi, Andree -

With my Xeloda chemo tablets, I got a " Side Effects Diary " . There's a

column for the date, a column for the time I took the tablets, and a set of

columns for all the expected side effects where I can put a tick under

" Nausea " , " Sickness " , " Diarrhoea " , " Mouth Ulcers " , " Hand-and-Foot Syndrome " ,

and " Fever " . I've taken three days' worth of the tablets so far, and

haven't put any ticks yet! If any of the side effects are really bad, I can

phone to tell my pharmacist and he can authorise a lower dose of the drug.

I am feeling very well looked after. 8-)
