Guest guest
Help! I've been having problems ever since my myomectomy on March 17th. I had terrible diarrhea after getting home from hospital, and finally got that stopped. I had a bad bladder infection, and finally got that diagnosed and treated (dip test was negative except for a trace of RBC, but culture was positive for enterococcus). I have been incredibly exhausted and weak ever since. I thought the bladder infection was coming back last week (the frequency was increasing, with my bladder hurting when I needed to pee and then feeling better after I do). The diptest only showed some leukocytes in my urine, but wasn't a clear positive, but I restarted the macrobid last Thursday, and my bladder feels improved. But today the urine culture results came back, and they're negative. Meanwhile I've had a recurring fever all weekend, with chills when it gets over 100. Tylenol seems to temper the fever a bit, but really it just runs its course. Friday night it got to 101.5; Saturday night I started Tylenol before the fever even started, and it still went up to 100.5. Today the fever is starting much earlier in the day, although it's only 99.5 so far. It seems like I have an infection somewhere but I don't know where. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't know what to even think at this point, except that something is wrong somewhere and I really need it to stop. Where could this infection be? What tests should I be asking for? I could call the surgeon, but he made it pretty clear at the post-op appointment that since the surgery was done, I should go to my GP for any further problems. I've got a call in to my GP, but I'm not sure he's really going to take me seriously - he's nice but seems to think I should be just fine now. I actually think I should be just fine now too, it's just that I'm not! Help! Thank you! G.

Guest guest
Well, my ab myo was performed on April 1, and you sound just like me (minus the fever). I still have diarrhea (not as bad as the first week, but still there) and I had a bladder infection, which they treated with Cipro. I still have a very full, bloated feeling, and pee a lot. My clothes are all still tight in the waist, and I feel so gross! I'm not sure if this is par for the course, but my doctor keeps telling me that it's normal. But, I don't have a fever, even though yours in low grade. Maybe you had a bug of some sort, on top of all this? Regardless, follow up with your GYN, not your GP. They will be more sympathetic when it comes to all of this. Good luck! Kim

Guest guest
Sadly but true, without symptoms other than a fever it could be anything from an infection to a bug. But feel free to call your doc anyways if it will put your mind at ease. At least it is documented that you called with a fever should it continue and he see you again. Guest guest
Thank you for the replies and support! I'm feeling like I'm NEVER going to feel better, and boy do I want my life back! The GP finally returned my call and said if my temperature goes up again, then I should come in for blood counts. I'm not sure why it has to go up again before tests are warranted, but it was the end of the day before he called so it was too late to go in today anyway. Since I've been on Macrobid since Thursday, I'm not sure if the WBC would be accurate?? I started the Macrobid on Thursday before the urine culture was back, and I'm trying to decide if I should finish it?? Even though the urine culture was " normal " , the bladder infection is still the most likely culprit in my mind. Actually the culture came back saying " mixed flora <50,000 " , which they said is negative, but a contaminated sample. I've never had a problem with the " clean catch " thing before, so that surprised me. I've been taking acidophilis to try to get my system back to normal, I don't suppose that would spook the test? This fever and exhaustion from nowhere just makes no sense to me. I don't have any cold/cough/vomiting/flu symptoms to go with the fever (nor do I want them). I just feel like I've never gotten back on my feet since the surgery. Argh! G.

Guest guest
, I would insist on blood tests - elevated sed rate would definitely indicate infection. I wouldn't mess around with infections - they can be serious and hard to treat if left for too long. I'm speaking as a survivor of a nasty staph infection after having a hip replacement, and now have a healthy respect for all infections. Don't let your doctor fob you off - something is clearly wrong. I would also put a call into your surgeon. Good luck,
Guest guest
I'm 6 weeks post myo, and my bladder still does not feel 100% back to normal. I had very similar pains (felt like my bladder was in a vice) for about 4 weeks, I still get that full feeling now, but not the pain that went with it. My doc thought it was a bladder infection (I knew it wasn't and it wasn't) because I described " pain " but I told her that the pain was not like a bladder infection. I've spoken to a few other post myo folks on this board and they've described similar feelings of bladder pain, fullness and such that lasted 2 months. My swollen abdomen finally went away, and thin again! yeah! It took about 5 weeks though.... Liz
