Guest guest
I've missed all of you the past couple of days and let me just say this "legal" thing is a "whirlwind!" As you know, I've never done legal before. The formatting of the 6 page memorandum almost did me in yesterday!!! The senior partner dictated a 24 minute memorandum to me, which he told me "this is the one girls run out of here over." (!!!!) I asked him if he was trying to do me in? LOL Well, I didn't run...I did the first three pages, then intercomed him and said, "Do you have 2 minutes for me?" I marched in there, with my incomplete draft, put it in front of him and said "I haven't a clue what I'm doing!" Remember, this is "trial by fire" as they say, but I'm trying really hard, although they are short-staffed, as well as losing their office manager 2 1/2 weeks ago suddenly. He said he appreciated my professionalism (!!) and even noticed I showed up 30 minutes early to work (I thought they noticed nothing, these lawyers!). We discussed how I've never done this before (which he knew during the interview), how there is very little time for them to train me until new office manager starts Wednesday, and how I'm usually in control with all my work experience, although this is HARD!! He's going to get the girls to help me in the formatting of documents and I could tell he really wanted me to stay and stop being so hard on myself (why wouldn't I, considering I've always done my job(s) well, when SHOWN how!) LOL So I will continue on Monday, after enjoying a lovely weekend with my family. I've been physically exhausted to even write to you at night, but hopefully with time, I'll build back my stamina. Going to start my vitamins again!! At 46, I'm feeling 75 by 6pm!! Any of you ever worked in a legal environment? Best,

Guest guest
Sorry, , I've never worked in the legal environment. My daughter is an operations manager for a large firm in Charlotte and I have to laugh at her sometimes... she speaks greek to me. I know you will catch on quickly and do a wonderful job. Sounds like help is on the way. Enjoy your weekend and remember... if you can go through fighting cancer where every thing is out of our comfort zone, you can handle this as well. We'll all be thinking of you and praying for you. Barb Re: First Two Days of Work (!! I've missed all of you the past couple of days and let me just say this "legal" thing is a "whirlwind!" Guest guest
Thanks for the update, . I have never worked in a legal office, but I did work in a bank where we had to have all the legal stuff in the file, etc. And the forms we had to fill out were gruesome. I had no training at all. And then after I was transferred to Bellingham they changed our word processing from Word Perfect to Word. Just happened one day and I was swimming in deep water for awhile. Luckily we had an asst who was younger and she knew a lot about how to work with Word. But it was awhile , a week or two, before I finally got with it. The forms were eventually put on line which made it so much easier to fill one out. Also, at the bank I was plunked down at the Manager's secretary desk and left to flounder. I would come back from lunch and it seemed like everyone had dumped some papers in the middle of the desk. I was left to asking questions, a lot of questions and it worked out eventually. I am a very fast learner and have been lifelong, so that helps a lot. I was moved around from teller to note teller to new accounts and safe deposit before I went with the Business Banking Group. All in all my boss did not want to hire me and the Area Manager saved me from driving 20 miles to work every day in snow!!! So my boss was never happy with anything I did. He insisted that I become an online note teller which meant a two week course, online with headquarters, which took most of my day and two hours an evening for reading the next day's assignment. I passed with flying colors and I don't think he expected that. I have had legal assistant training at a dinky bus. college and have a certificate but never used it. Good luck on the job, it sounds like you are doing great. To stop and ask questions is the most important thing you did............and I sure hope the Office Manager is able to help you out some. Keep on keeping on.............You can do this!! Janet
Guest guest
; Glad to hear that you made it through the first day. As reading your e-mail, that was a long memorandum. You'll do just fine. It will take a little bit of time to get back into the groove as one would say but stick with it and you'll be glad you did. To answer your question, yes I did work in a legal environment before, and yes I do know what you are talking about. I loved my job, but I to got sick with this whole bc, but doing 100% better today. I no longer work in that law off. I am now wkg. for the sheriffs dept. and I love every minute of it. Best wishes to you, and continue soaring. michelle & nne Svihlik wrote: , Glad to hear you made it through you first couple of days. You will do just fine. Hang in there.
