Guest guest
So how was everyone's weekend? I had a great one. Roy and I were registered to run in the first annual Edgewater Rock and Roll 5k which commemorates the Beatles visit to Seattle 40 years ago. It was Saturday evening at 5:30. We decided to make a day of it since the race was in the evening. Roy rented a hotel room so we could relax in the hot tub after the race. We had a great day! We had a high carb lunch of sushi and then went to see Shrek 2. What a HILARIOUS movie! I haven't laughed out loud so hard in a long time! The race was great! We got off to a bad start time-wise as I got the times mixed up, but we weren't there to win. We were there to have fun, run the route, and support the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The race was on the Seattle Waterfront and ran from the Edgewater Inn through Myrtle Park to the Happy Hooker (a fish bait place) back to the hotel. If you've ever seen the photograph of the four Beatles fishing out the window of a hotel, that's the Edgewater Inn. It is also the hotel where Roy and I spent our anniversary, so it is doubly special to us. Since I knew I wasn't going to make my goal of finishing in the first half of my age range, I decided to just enjoy the run and make sure Roy enjoyed it too. I'm so worried that he'll decide he hates running if I don't stay with him. So I ran ahead then came back after hitting just past mile two and stuck with him the rest of the race. Despite our start we were NOT the last finishers, which made us both feel good. At the end of the race there was plenty of water and fresh fruit. A live band was playing. It was a lot of fun. We hung around for awhile, rehydrated, ate an apple and then went back to the hotel. After changing out of our shorts we took a long walk down the waterfront to find some food. Had a delicious dinner at Ivars (seared ahi and rice with pea vines...which were strange, didn't really like those) and then held hands and walked back. Very beautiful and romantic. I'm not sure why, but while we were walking we decided to go ahead and get up and do the same run again the next morning. I normally don't run two days in a row, but yesterday's run was so easy that I felt like I could handle it. We got up this morning and did the same run, taking a little time off yesterday's run. The day was beautiful! It was supposed to be raining, but it wasn't. The sun was shining. The ferries were beautiful on the water. A few sailboats were out. I ran halfway then up onto the pier and around. They have a GREAT fishing pier that makes me wish I had my license. I went ahead and joined Roy for a bit but he assured me that he didn't mind if I ran ahead so I finished up and then went back and ran back with him. He's actually getting faster and he wasn't really that far behind me. After the run we decided to grab breakfast. I had brought a Breakfast Cookie so I bought a nonfat latte and some fresh fruit and we sat outside at a table on the waterfront and read the paper and chatted. After breakfast we walked up to the Cinerama and saw Shrek 2 again. Yeah, it was that good! We enjoyed lunch where I ordered a shrimp taco that looked like it would be low in calories, but didn't turn out to be. I was not happy about that, but mistakes are made. I journaled it and moved on. We walked around Seattle some more. I picked up some new running shoes and then we headed home. I was sorry to miss church, but we had a very nice, relaxing weekend. And on the way home, I had picked up a flyer for the Seattle Marathon. I was talking about running the half and said "Oh Roy, they have a walk. Would you be interested in that?" He said he would! So it looks like he might walk the half marathon while I run it. I'm so glad he's actually starting to enjoy running. It's great to have something active to do together. ~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'Tory Klementsen, MCP A+Career and Technology Educatorwww.teechur.comwww.msteechur.com-The successful person will do the things that the unsuccessful person will not. Guest guest
Sounds like you guys had a blast at the race! Hilarious that you got there after the race started, but big ups for doing it anyway and NOT coming in last even though you had so much ground to make up! and I are signed up for the Dino Dash 5K on June 5th. It's a fund raiser for the Children's Museum of Discovery, which has a dinosaur exhibit during the summer. Since this is his second race, he said I can do my own pace and he'll do his. I'm hoping to improve my personal 5K record, so we'll see! I'd like to do the 3.1 miles in about 29 minutes. Glad to hear Shrek 2 is great. I think we're going to go see it this weekend. Guest guest
You know I'll be honest, I was very proud that I didn't just turn around and go back to the hotel crying. The old Tory would have done that. I don't get embarassed any more, though. Roy was kind of embarassed. He felt like others were judging him because he came in so far behind. We had a long talk about it afterwards about how we win because we show up (thanks Bingham) because so many people aren't even willing to do THAT! He was feeling better about it and I think running the next morning the same route helped him feel proud of what he did. We have a street scramble next weekend, which should be interesting because it is after an all night party. What ARE we thinking? We'll do it, though. I'll probably end up killing my husband because I get SO cranky when I am tired! Okay I am STILL watching Dr. Phil and just bawling! Oh man I am so proud of these people! > Re: Weekend Report > > > Sounds like you guys had a blast at the race!
