Guest guest
Well, I didn't want to jump the gun before I got it all approved. But since " GETTING YOUR UNDERWEIGHT CHILD TO GAIN WEIGHT " seems to be the ever popular topic, I decided to expand the topic at next year's convention. Instead of using up precious little time in our Friday " RSS only " day of presentations, Annie (director for Rare Disorders -has a lot of Failure to Thrive kids) and I asked if we could use 2 hours on Saturday morning. We got it approved. I have scheduled a " combination " speaker program. Dr. Harbison, as a peds endo. Dr. Chuck Dumont from Loyola at Chicago, as a peds GI (who also is the Director of their Integrative Medicine (alternative medicine) program!!!!), and then a nutrionist and speech/feeding therapist (the latter of whom BOTH currently work with several of our Chicago RSS children). It was actually Dr. H who recommended Dr. Dumont. She said he is an amazing peds GI doctor, who knows the most of anyone about RSS/SGA kids and what combination of " convention " and " alternative " medicines can help a child (called " integrative " ). I know this was a hot topic a while back, and I don't want anyone to think that I, or MAGIC, only espouses one viewpoint. However, that being said, everything has to be run past the MAGIC's medical review board, and Dr. Dumont is very highly thought of in the Chicago area. I hope people get excited about this new addition. I will email more about the other presentation topics in a couple days. Salem
Guest guest
Thanks, . I have visited both kinds of doctors and have been frustrated that they don't combine their efforts more. Both seem to have strengths and shortcomings. I've benefitted from both approaches in my own life, yet I've run into some really dumb conventional and alternative medicine ideas as well! It would be nice to talk to someone who knows the advantages of both and is willing and able to look critically and scientifically at the shortcomings of both.
