Dear Lynn

I cannot believe what you just wrote!! That's exactly when my vulvar

burning began also--right after a cystoscopy!! You said you have finally

gotten better--please tell me Lynn what you think got you better? I'm

so sorry you have to do this procedure again:(.

After my procedure in Sept/03.....I called the doctors office and spoke to

the nurse. It was either later that day...or the following morning. I

said, " When should I expect the burning all around the vulvar area, to

stop? " She said, It shouldn't be burning, if it keeps up come in and we'll

check it out.. Well, 6 days later i got my first yeast infection and I've

had them chronically ever since. Even in the absence of yeast, the vulva

never stops burning!!!! I've always been skeptical of the procedure itself

as being a possible cause and of course the urolugist insisted he'd never

heard of that.....and I also wondered about the cipro as a cause??? But of

course how can anything feel definitive if no one you know, shares your

experience. I also did a google search a while back and found a post by a

man who says that after his cystoscopy he's been burning on the head of his

penis ever since and I think that was 7 or 8 months for him at that time.

Oh Lynn, did any of your doctors actually give you the impression that

it could possibly by the procedure itself?? I also wondered if it could be

the numbing agent they smear all over that area before inserting the

catheter??? Maybe it breaks down the glycosaminoglycan barrier or

something??

Yes it can. It can happen after trauma. Surgery, cystoscopy, childbirth. Anything that makes you have pain and then you clench and then your muscles and nerves get angry. i'd like i could come in and get it checked out. Well, I didn't go in

because I had felt there were too many things done during the procedure that

were hygienically questionable and felt very disturbed by it...so just

wanted to stay away from their office altogether. Plus their courier lost

my urine sample! Six days later i had my first yeast infection and i've had

them chronically ever since. In the absence of yeast, the vulvar tissue

continues to burn, sometimes moderately, sometimes profusely. I called the

urologist many months later in tears and asked him could this have anything

to do with the cystoscopy precedure and of course he said no and wished me

luck resolving this. I've also wondered if the burning could have anything

to do with the numbing gel they smear over the urethra area as well. Is

there something in it that has caused this. I've also wondered if this has

been a reaction to the cipro given after the procedure.

A while back i googled 'cystoscopy procedure' and found a post by a man who

says immediately following his cystoscopy, the head of his penis began

burning. At the time of his post it had been burning seven or eight months

already and he had no relief. It has to be possible. How do we resolve it

though? You said you were not looking forward to next week when you have to

repeat the procedure (I'm so sorry you must do this:( ). You also said

that you had gotten better!! Please tell me what you did to heal the

vulva---maybe it will work for me also!

not a muscle pain thing...it is tissue burning only---but pervasively.

It doesn't have to be "muscle pain" The muscles and the nerves get unhappy and then the nerves "misfire" and make your tissue hurt. Just like with me it was in my bladder and tissues of my internal vagina. No, it was not my muscles. Thank God I went to PT anyway and am now well. I even had surgery to lift my bladder. The doctors said that would make the bladder pain go away, it didn't, it made it worse. Because they did surgery and manipulated nerves and muscles that were out of whack. My aunt who killed herself, by the way, had her bladder removed. Well her bladder pain persisted even without a bladder. It was the nerves, not the bladder. Have you ever heard this likened to phantom pain? The nerves fire to places that aren't there? Or in your case, the nerves fire to tissues that have nothing wrong with them, no reason to hurt. love,

You could be right--I just don't get it I guess. If it is nerve pain

affecting the tissue why do i not have pain on touch or with sex. None

whatsoever...just tissue burning. Was yours tissue burning alone, and what

does a PT do to effect healing? Even though it is always burning, it burns

exponentially if urine is allowed to wash over the area so i do my best to

cover it. I have been using aquaphor the past few days, and it helps

'somewhat'.

Hi, I just happen to be back on. I am making a coat rack in my shop and am waiting for the metal to cool. Any pain involves nerves. Pain for no reason is nerves misfiring or chronic pain. Pain whose cause has long since healed or never was. My pain was constant but was way worse the day after sex. It is easy to get caught up in comparisons or in trying to figure out what caused this. It is a compilation of many many things. With me it was a lifetime of riding horses, a tilted pelvis, and many falls and then childbirth and then surgery. But mine is no different than someone whose pain started with many bladder infections. It is all piled up on the camel's back and then something breaks it. I live in Colorado. You're probably right, i do seem to be 'stuck' on

cause....and (maybe wrongly so)....I keep thinking 'cause' leads to

different types of healing for different causes(?). This is probably wrong.

I did go to a PT that specializes in vaginal PT. I went way in the

beginning referred by my reg. PT. It was just so sensitive due to burning

but i could probably go now. What is it the PT does to remedy the tissue

that is burning?

I went to Margaret Atwood in Denver, she was ok, but then I went to San Francisco and saw Prendergast and then and only then did I start to get well. lady who deals in womens issues who is also a PT. Her name is Laurie Byrnes.

Maybe i should get back in touch with her. Thanks for all your input.

Were your issues primarily vulvar burning or something else. Can you

describe a little about the procedure you learned and then taught your

husband? Just trying to piece it all together in my mind....before i spend

more $$$ (long-term $$$)in another direction. It sounds promising though:).

Hi, my symptoms were primarily IC and internal vulvar burning. Please don't get caught up in comparisons. I highly suggest trying Stacey Tuckwell with Center for Physical Wellness. She has worked a bit with Rhonda Kotarinos and I think she is your best bet although I'm not positive. There is also a Dawn Sandalcidi in Denver who is supposed to be good, but I didn't like her personally. I would try Stacey first. Hi, my symptoms were primarily IC and internal vulvar burning. Please don't get caught up in comparisons. I highly suggest trying Stacey Tuckwell with Center for Physical Wellness. She has worked a bit with Rhonda Kotarinos and I think she is your best bet although I'm not positive. There is also a Dawn Sandalcidi in Denver who is supposed to be good, but I didn't like her personally. I would try Stacey first. Thanks Molly for your # and all the info you have shared. It is a big

decision to add yet another path to possible healing when budgets are so

My PT suggested using vitamin E, like the stuff inside the gel tablets,
