self-expelling fibroid

Hello, all. Yesterday I went to a new ob-gyn for a consultation after my

nurse practitioner, during a routine pelvic, had found something that she

couldn't identify--either a cervical polyp or a fibroid descending from my

uterus. She also said that my cervix was so dilated as a result of the

growth that she could put her finger through it.

So this new doctor took one look and asked for forceps, saying that I would

only feel a little tugging. Well--I imagine some of you are chuckling about

now--it was *excruciatingly* painful, but she pulled out a fibroid that

looked to be about three centimeters in diameter.

My bleeding and clots for the past few days had been their worst in a long

time, but after this procedure it really was like a faucet had been turned

off, and I feel a curious emptiness where the fibroid was. I don't know the

state of my other fibroids (will find out soon), but for now this is a

welcome relief. My question is about the frequency of self-aborting

or -expelling fibroids, since I have found very little on the Web on this.

Does anyone know how often this happens? Is it considered a good thing, or

was my situation just relatively simple?

A word about the pain: I do not want to alarm anyone about this, so I

should say that I am 44 and have never given birth or terminated a

pregnancy, so I think the pain I felt was not typical.

Michele
