Guest guest
Hi all, First off I just wanted to say a big " Thank You " to everyone involved in this board, I have been reading all of your posts diligently everyday and am now looking for some more insight from everyone. Just for a bit of a refesher on my background, this all started for me when I was 18 (I am now 25)....thought it was a yeast infection, nothing worked, disocvered toilet paper was the culprit, most of my symptoms went away for almost 5 years (except the mild to moderate burning after sex)...this spring it all started again, went to a specialist who diagnosed me with Contact Vulvitis (I think he was wrong) and prescribed a mild steroid and progesterone cream. Now it is almost 5 months after I saw the specialist and I'm actually WORSE...I stopped using all of the creams he prescribed and am now seeing a Naturalopathic/Chiropractor doctor who is eliminating any harsh chemicals and foods from my life. But over the past few days the skin around the outside of my labia has started to crack and everything is beet red. The itching is so intense that I just want to literally scratch it until it bleeds (though I won't since I know it will make it 10000000x worse) I've been using sitz baths with either epsom salts or baking soda, as well as applying plain, natural yogurt to the area at night. The new doc also put me on Acidophilles (a pill with millions of bacteria to help combat yeast)....but I keep going up and down with the pain and itching!!!! Has anybody else had this and found relief? I mentioned Emu oil to the new doc, but he wants to eliminate as many " bad " products as he can before introducing new ones....but I just can't take it anymore! Help! Hoping you're all doing well (or at least better than me! ) -
Guest guest
Have you thought about trying an antihistamine for the itching? That has helped me. Also...I just want you to be cautious...acidophilous and yogurt helps return good bacteria to your body, which is great. But part of my symptoms were because of an OVERGROWTH of this bacteria, the symptoms were the same as a yeast infection. This good bacteria makes your vagina more acidic. However, the baking soda/epsom salt sitz baths make your vagina more alkaline (remember the good ol' ph) scale, so I wonder if you are cancelling out their effects at all? Do you know if it is yeast or bacteria for sure? Until then you may want to consider an antihistamine (claritin during the day and benadryl at night) with your doctor's ok, it helps with itching and the benadryl will help you sleep. I hope you feel better soon! Guest guest
Hi Lindsey, Thanks for the response! I don't know if it's an overgrowth or not. The new doc suspects that it is (since yeast tends to be opportunistic and will attack weakened skin like mine)...though my other docs always did swabs for yeast and they always came back negative. The itching is a whole new thing for me...only been going on for a few weeks now. You may be right about the epsom salts/baking soda cancelling out the acidohillus/yogurt. I'm just not sure which one to stick to? Both have helped in the past, but lately everything seems to be making me itch. I'm seriously considering going right off the birth control pill as I've been on the pill about as long as I've been dealing with this. For the longest time there was only pain in my vestibule, and ONLY after sex. Now everything is red and it ITCHES!!! esp. in my inner thighs. ugh this is sooo frustrating! I'm going to see my new doc tomorrow, so I will discuss this with him and see what he thinks. I have also considered an anti-histamine. I suffer from seasonal allergies (end of summer - fall) and they may help both problems hopefully! Thanks again for everyone here who listens and understands. It really helps. - --- Lindsey wrote: > Have you thought about trying an antihistamine for > the itching? That > has helped me. Guest guest
You can go to the drugstore and purchase Benedryl Childrens Liquid – it is (or should be) alchol, sugar and dye free. Use this as a topical very sparingly, in the evening at first, on one side of the vulva only and see if it helps the itching. Don’t put any underpants on and sleep ‘commando’. It is possible that with cracked skin that any application will burn. In the meantime do take Claritin by day. Or you could take the Claritin oral or Bendryl oral (adult) first and see if this helps and if it does, then intro the topical. Since your skin is cracked – after you apply the Bendryl topically – wait about l/2 to an hour and apply 100% pure coconut oil, or olive oil or emu oil. If the Bendryl helps – then keep at it, but only do one side for the first 4 or 5 days so as to be aware of any negative effects and if they were to happen your entire vulva wouldn’t be affected. If the childrens liquid is no longer alchol, dye and sugar free – then get Bendryl Gel or cream and still apply sparingly til you know how you are going to react. Throw away your bar soap and get Cetaphil at Walmarts or drugstore or Kiss My Face 100% pure olive oil soap. Bar soap has (no kidding) a ghazillion chemicals that are KNOWN allergens, even DOVE for sensitive skin. Do NOT wash your hair while showering or bathing. Finish getting clean – get out of the tub and wash your hair either in the sink or leaning over the tub. Shampoos, conditioners and other hair products are probably 10 times worse for know allergens than your bar soap and if you shower or bath with those chemicals flowing down to your genital area – you are really doing a number on that delicate skin. Do NOT use sanitary wipes of any kind – these are also filled with chemical allergens. If the above works and the itching is reduced – then you do indeed have contact allergy. You should feel a difference within the first 6 days or so, but with skin as bad as you describe it will take a bit longer to really feel better. I had cracked skin and the entire area was shrunken to the size of a childs genitals. No itching. My problem was vulva/vaginal atrophy from lack of hormones and severe contact allergy problems. Itching may indicate one of the Lichen disorders or yeast – but confirm yeast before you treat for it as it has the potential to further harm the skin. Keep us posted. Guest guest
Is your birth control Alesse? If it isn’t can you post what it is and what the hormonal ingredients are? You could be on a pill which is causing pH problems or hormonal imbalances and Alesse is right up there with the ones that can aggravate because of its high progesterone. Guest guest
Thank you so much Dusty! I think I will try the oral ant-histamine first. Every year I typically take Reactin, and I seem to remember being " better " in the fall (when I typically take Reactine). So I will try that first and then slowly introduce the Benadryl topically. Thankd again, I'll take this info with me to the doc tomorrow. Hugs for you all, --- Dusty wrote: > You can go to the drugstore and purchase Benedryl > Childrens Liquid - it is > (or should be) alchol, sugar and dye free. Guest guest
Hi again Dusty, The pill I'm on is called " Synphasic " ...I don't think it's high in progesterone, but then again I don't know for sure. Though I seem to remember my doctor mentioning that it was high in estrogen, but don't quote me on that lol. Has anyone here been on Synphasic? Thanks, --- Dusty wrote: > Is your birth control Alesse? If it isn't can you > post what it is and what > the hormonal ingredients are? Guest guest
Googled for ingredients. They are: Ingredients Each blue tablet contains the hormones " norethisterone " 500 micrograms (mcg) and " ethinyloestradiol " 35 micrograms (mcg). These blue tablets also contain magnesium stearate, povidone, maize starch, lactose and indigo carmine CI 73015. Each white tablet contains the hormones " norethisterone " 1.0 milligram (mg) and " ethinyloestradiol " 35 micrograms (mcg). These white tablets also contain magnesium stearate, povidone, maize starch and lactose. The orange inactive tablets contain magnesium stearate, cellulose microcrystalline, lactose & sunset yellow FCF (CI No. 15985). Are you allergic to yellow dye (tartrazine)?, Blue dyes? Aspirin? These things are in this Product. You might want to run these ingredients past Dee as it looks heavily loaded on the norenthindrone side. Guest guest
They even make a benadryl cream-just make sure it is not alcohol based. Birth control pills REALLY change your ph. Oh, and by the way...you could be hypersensitive to yeast, so it might not show up on a swab or culture BUT if there is a little bit there and you have had a history of multiple yeast infections, then your body could have an overblown reaction. The diflucan maintenance doesn't hurt. > > You can go to the drugstore and purchase Benedryl Childrens Liquid - it is > (or should be) alchol, sugar and dye free.
