Guest guest
Debi, that must be very frustrating!! ( But I do want to assure you that it's probably not the Armour that has caused weight gain. To the contrary, when you are on an optimal dose, your metabolism is higher! When folks get on their optimal dose, they might exercise more, causing muscle buildup, and muscle weighs more than fat. Or, it could be that something else is causing fluid retention. Guest guest
> Has anyone else GAINED weight on armour _______________ I have read about this happening. One speculation is that if you are hypothyroid enough and develop poor absorption of nutrients, then you won't gain weight and may loose it. So, when you take thyroid, things can get normalized and then you take up what you eat a lot better. The other thing that could be happening is that the dose is too low for you and is at the same time slowing the pituitary output of TSH too much, making your overall daily total of thryoid from medicine and what your thryoid makes lower than you were pre-thyroid treatment. Guest guest
Synthroid is worse for you. I know you must be frustrated, but hang on. You probably haven't found your optimal dose yet, which will raise your metabolism. Once, I thought it was 2 grains, but I'm now up to 3 1/4 and edging towards 3 1/2 grains. Also, hopefully you are taking b-vitamins, minerals, selenium, etc. All will help. Janie > -Boy I can't even remember pre-thyroid treatment lol. Guest guest
- Thanks Janie, It is very frustrating. My Dr started me on 3 grains, but I am only taking 3/4 of the pill. Maybe I should increase it the end of the week as it will be 3 weeks since I started on it. Deb -- In NaturalThyroidHormones , " loboshe " <usns@r...> wrote: > Synthroid is worse for you. Guest guest
I think you would have better luck controlling weight with a little lower carbohydrate diet. Carbos like muffins, popcorn and other starches really raise glucose and make more work for the adrenals. Also, your diet sounds pretty meager and that makes me think your thryoid dose is not high enough. My typical daily meals are: Breakfast 2 eggs cooked in butter Almond flour muffin loaded with fat and other goodies (about 350 to 400 calories) Fruit, like 1/4 of a cantelope or 1/2 a grapefruit Lunch Homemade soup with tons of veggies and made with bones and lots of meat scraps. It is thick like stew. Some type of meat, maybe two pieces of lunch meat, jerky, Peanut butter or low carb snack Dinner 3-5 ounces of meat Two huge servings of non starchy vegetables from the farmers market Fruit Maybe a salad or cucumber pieces or carrots or tomato slices Desert, usually low sugar homemade snack or another muffin. I am taking 3-1/2 grains of Armour and it seems like I eat a lot more than you do without weight gain. I don't exercise either because of adrenal problems. So, that makes me think your thryoid dose is too low. Tish
Guest guest
Oh Deb, yes. If you are only on 3/4 grain, and have done fine, it's a good time to rise. And that explains your situation--you are probably far from your optimal dose, and your metabolism is still slow as a snail! There's hope! ) Janie > Thanks Janie, It is very frustrating. Guest guest
Roxanna, I was on .175 mcg of synthroid, so it was a lower equivalent dose than the amount of armour I am now taking (2 and 3/4 grains ) The Dr. wanted me to start with the 3 grains all at once. I am going to add the other 1/4 grain this week. The conversion rate is 2 grains of armour is supposed to be equal to .200mcg of synthroid, but I think I was undertreated with synthroid anyway. --- Drug ¨ Thyroid Tablets, USP ( In NaturalThyroidHormones , " Roxanna V Knight-Plouff, DVM " <tayamni@e...> wrote: > Deb, > > Maybe I am mixed up....but weren't you on Synthroid before at a higher equivalent dose than the Armour you are on right now?
