Guest guest
The two main grocery chains in my area (western NY State) sell both plain whole milk Dannon and plain whole milk Greek-style Fage (which is really great yogurt to use as a starter; it’s extremely thick), neither of which have bifidus. Do you have other food stores besides Whole Foods in your area? n From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of H Sent: Saturday, March 28, 2009 6:59 PM To: BTVC-SCD Subject: Yogurt Starter w/o bifidus Hi all, Where do you find plain yogurt (to use as starter) that doesn't have bifidus in it? Whole Foods doesn't have any plain yogurt w/o bifidus. I just ordered powdered SCD-approved starter from GIProHealth, but it's quite expensive doing it that way. Have any of you found a particular brand of yogurt without bifidus cultures? Thanks, UC since 2005 No virus found in this incoming message. The 24 gram bottle makes 64 quarts so at $30 per bottle it's $0.47 per quart of yogurt. You can find Yogourmet starter as low as $2.59 to make 6 quarts, or $0.43 per quart. While this may be more expensive than using commercial yogurt as a start I use Yogourmet for the following reasons: - it's exactly the mixture I want - it's very convenient -- takes almost no refrigerator space and the shelf life is very long - I haven't made a bad batch yet - it isn't *that* expensive :-) Cheers, DF in MA UC June '07 SCD Nov '
