Guest guest
- I'm in the exact same (almost) dilema! Actually, I got layed off 2 years ago and I just got my " dream job " , today being my very first day. I have already met with Dr. Stiles (you'll like her!) and we agreed on a specific amount of weight I need to lose before surgery. The thing is, I'm hoping that the February / March timeframe is right because I can't see asking for time off now that I've got this great job, especially since I was off for SO long. The job market is the pits out there, but I hear it's gettin better. Soooo, bottom line - if you find a job any time soon, if I were you, I'd continue with the process but don't ask to be bumped up if there is a cancellation - not a good rapport with the new boss! It's nice to know I'm not the only one with this problem! Thanks for sharing - Jane in Cupertino

Guest guest
Thanks Jane, You're right. But what I was saying was that if I am not hired by October 25th, then I will stop looking for work entirely, or after my surgery and recovery. That way I dont risk a new job by asking for too much time off so soon after being hired. If I do find a job before the 25th, then I will just leave things as they are and hopefully my surgery will be 2-3 months after I am hired. Thanks again, and thanks for the info on Dr. Stiles. Ive great things about her and her staff. 123 > - I'm in the exact same (almost) dilema! Actually, I got layed off 2 years ago and I just got my " dream job " , today being my very first day. Guest guest
Thanks , I have a feeling a lot hangs on what Dr. Stiles determines... I appreciate your feedback. Life isnt all bad for me! Getting laid off was actually a blessing, I hated that job and you certainly dont need stress and drama before you go into surgery! Now im spending more my time with my wonderful, sexy man Jim, cleaning the house to the point where I practically wax the carpets, and working on my crafts and hobbies. The job hunting is going better than I thought! Today and Monday are the only two days this week where I didnt have at least 2 or 3 interviews and its been that way since I was laid off. So, Im confident work will come my when when I sort things out! Thanks again 123 > > > > Hello Everyone !! > > I was laid off from my job on September 17! Guest guest
-I would suggest talking to the bariatrics department where you are having surgery. I have heard, although not confirmed, that they try to accomodate people with special needs like yours. You never know, you may get lucky and they may accept your current weight loss and get you in sooner than you think. ===== Heidi Lauw
Guest guest
: Best of luck to you. I'm not too helpful with the time frame stuff as I had my surgery at Richmond and was scheduled fast (I was the second man to get gastric bypass surgery there and among the first 20 or so patients). Anyway, I used to HATE shopping for clothes, but now that I can fit, it's so fun! The first time I picked out a really nice shirt that was in the NORMAL (not Big & Tall) section, I took it in the dressing room and just started to cry when the shirt fit so well. After I dried the tears, I went crazy becuase there was a 50% off sale. I think I spent nearly $800 all at once (that would have been $1600 on a regular day). But don't go crazy like me, I've had to donate all those shirts and pants and belts because in a few months, they no longer fit. I was just swimming in them. But at least the shoes ($400 of the $800) still fit, as I no longer require Wide shoes. Normal width is perfect now. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Everything will work out for the best I'm sure. Gemello -148 lbs > > Hello Everyone !! > I was laid off from my job on September 17! Guest guest
Hi ! Its so nice to see you posting. I will tell you my recovery time was one month and I needed every minute of that time to recover. Now some people who have had surgery around the same time I did recover super fast. I was not so lucky. I had to sleep in the lazyboy for the first two weeks as the pain was so bad I could not even lay in my own bed. Now remember I had open and lap as they could not complete it by doing lap and had to open me (super ouch) I to was going to start a new job (my dream job to I was very lucky in the timing. I had orientation in oct had surgery in January 16th 2003 and went back to work on March 17th. I started out working 15 hours a day as I was part of and opening team to open a new Marriott Hotel and I set up and ran a Job fair that 3000 people showed up for! Looking back now I must of been crazy ,but after all it was my time to " show what I can do " and it was a huge pay off. I had however already been working for Marriott in SF before the surgery and they new what I was doing and supported me 100% so in that way I was very lucky. They new I was moving to Santa Cruz to be with . I think its really hard to say how much time it will take you to recover as I said for me it was a full month for others just a couple of weeks. I no you and with your personality and skills you will always have job offers. I'm sure what ever you decide you will be fine. Again its so nice to see you posting. We should do lunch soon Shell > > Hello Everyone !! > I was laid off from my job on September 17!
