I wasn't sure where was, but the last post she was saying they had

lost a few shingles and the power had flickered off a few times. So she

must be getting some of it. I'm just amazed at how it is barely moving

so those in it's path are getting tons of rain, more than normal in a

hurricane.

I am from Florida also, although I live in Alabama now. I remember

Donna. I was five years old. But I remember it b/c we were in a new

house that had been strategically placed behind a hugh oak tree. We

moved in just a few days before Donna came through and blew the tree

down.

I'll be praying for your dear ones too.

Blessings,

Debbie K.

RE: Hurricane

I thought Dianna was in Ft Laud? They are just getting some heavy rain

and

wind, but not too bad. My sister lives there on the intracoastal, my

surrogate daughter lives in Coral springs which is NW of there, and they

are

getting it a bit worse since it is all low land, but my daughter lives

in

Palm Beach and they are getting the brunt. My friends in Orlando got the

last one and they say it will be really bad there again. That is again

lowland. I am from there and have lived through many hurricaines all the

way

back to Donna in 1960.

As bad as it will be for the people on the coast including my daughter, the

inland areas are flooding already. The heavy wind is just hitting Palm Beach

now and my daughters best friend works for the news station so she is

keeping me up to date with real info. . They are getting 80 mile an hour

winds right now, but the storm is about 400 miles wide and Florida will be

flooded for days. I grew up in FT Laud on the islands on the intracostal. I

loved that we were evacuated every hurricane and got to stay in a hotel and

drink OJ from those little cans. I guess with our seawall washing away and

the dock washing away several times, my parents wern't so thrilled. Vero

Beach is really taking a beating at the moment too if you recognise any of

the areas. My friend in Miami Beach says that it is windy and rainy, but not

too bad at all. My sister says Port Everglades is full of boats parked out

there so they won't hit the seawalls.

Yes, as much rain as this is dumping and as wide an area as it covers,

there is definitely going to be some major flooding. If it continues to

move as slowly as it has moved today, it will take it a over a week to

get across Florida. Maybe it will move faster as they predict, but then

they were predicting it to make landfall last night and it hasn't yet.

If you are sending updates out to friends, please add me to your list or

post them here. I'd like to continue to get news.

Debbie

It is expected for the eye to hit Palm Beach County at the north end about

Midnight east coast time. They are expecting the eye to take over 4 hours to

clear that area, almost a record.I am on my way out, but will fill you in

when I get on in the morning. They are expecting the center of the state

like Orlando to have the most property damage since there is so much debris

from Charley. All my friends up there have now left for shelters. Coral

Springs is wet and wild but not too bad. Signs that were not fastened and

poor condidtion roofs and sheds. As an old Floridian, I always checked my

roof and fashia. My friend said someone left a hanging house address sign

out and it went through the neighbors down the streets window which the only

put tape on! Like Jeb Bush said, many losses and injuries will be from

stupidity!

My friends in Miami are all going out to brunch. My surrogate daughter in

Coral Springs which is kind of like west Ft Laud for those of you that don't

know the area is flooded pretty much on the streets, but no real damage in

the are except with top heavy trees, signs, houses that were in need of

repair and flooding, my sister in FT Laud on the intracoastal has severe sea

wall damage and still is having tide surges so more damage to the islands is

expected. I have not heard from my daughter in West Palm Beach area which is

where it came inland and is very flooded. The police are not letting anyone

in or out from there so no news. My friends in Orlando are getting it now

and no news either

I'm on the Tx Gulf Coast, and, from what I've seen in the past, noone could

EVER convince me to stay home or in the area ever again, while one of those

things is hitting. I believe it was that was more or less a " dry "

hurricane, with very little water in it, yet, it was full to the brim with

tornados. You can't count on not getting flooded in and being stuck where

you are, possibly for wks on end. I will never stay in my area, if one

looks like it is due to hit. You can't protect your property just because

you're there.
