Guest guest
Hi everyone, Yesterday, I had blood and mucus at the beginning of my (now normal, regular, and entirely predictable once daily) bowel movement. The rest of the stool was totally normal. As you can imagine, I am anxious about this since I've had such great healing on SCD and haven't had any other symptoms for ages. Exactly 2 weeks ago today I had minor outpatient surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome on my right hand. There are a few flags from that event: one, they gave me an oral liquid antacid. Before I consumed it, I asked if it had any sugar or sugar derivatives and they said no (but Lord only know what other goodies might have been in there). Second, they gave me a dose of IV antibiotics just before surgery. Afterwards, I took 3 tylenol + codeine pills over the course of 48 hours and several ibuprofen for the next 2 days because I was having quite a lot of swelling. I was constipated for two days, so I took 2 Dulcolax followed by normal bowel movements since then, until yesterday. I'll admit I wasn't too concerned about illegals in the meds because I've never had ibuprofen bother me in the past and I've healed so much, I didn't think the small amounts in medications would really bother me. I still adhere pretty strictly to pure SCD, except that I'm not quite as picky about things like restaurants and I have been eating long-ferment sourdough bread about 3-4 times per month since November (with no symptoms until now). Today, my stool was entirely normal with no trace whatsoever of blood or mucus. My question is whether it could take 2 weeks for a bacterial imbalance to occur and allow enough bad bacteria to resurface that I could have developed an ulcer already. Does anyone have an opinion about what might be happening? Kathy UC since 12/05 SCD since 7/07 med-free since 7/
