A quick heart warming story . . .2 years ago when I was a year post op and

had lost 90 pounds, I went to my husbands GE Christmas Party. His co-workers

went nuts, they didn't know who I was . . .that night, I talked to a

co-worker and his wife who were both more than 100 pounds overweight

themselves. I shared about my RNY and the woman thought it would be in her

husbands best interest though she wouldn't consider it . . . Well, he dieted

and lost quite a bit, she gained more. I saw them again last year . . . Then

last night at the GE Holiday Party I saw her and she had dropped a lot of

weight and positively glowed inside, looking 20 years younger! She Thanked

ME for telling her my story 2 years ago. She too had the RNY and is off all

medications and is no longer diabetic! She had her surgery this past April

and her weight loss is sooo slow now. She said once again seeing me and how

much smaller I am from last year, I once again have inspired her. I felt so

happy inside to know that her life is back and so is her health. I don't

ever lie about my surgery, but this is the first time for me that a person

who had never thought of surgery, had surgery and got their health back

because I inspired them to make a difference in their own lives and health. .

..I feel so good!

This is so heartwarming, Vicki. I know exactly how you feel.

There have been 3 of us at work who have had the RNY: Two of us are quite

open about it; the other is not. The two of us have been talking to one man

at work at least since I had my surgery. He is terrified of ANY surgery!!! He

has now completed all the pre-op and is scheduled for 4 Jan 02. If I/we had

not been open and honest about how I/we lost my/our weight, he would still be

there without hope.

There are at least two other people at work that I wish were as receptive to

WLS as this gent, with all his fears, is. <sigh> But you have to be ready on

your own regardless of how well others do. ;<(

A quote I saw somewhere " you only change when the pain of now is offset by the

fear of the unknown " or something to that effect.
