Guest guest
I was in the exact same position as you 6 years ago. A 11cm pedunculated fibroid, only symptom frequent urination. My doctor didn't push me to do anything at the time and not liking the idea of surgery, I figured I'd push it off as much as possible. I finally did have a myo just this Jan. The fibroid had reached 26 cm by then. In the past six years, as the fibroid grew, the frequent urination reached the point of going at least every hour, if not every 20 minutes, sex became more and more painful, I looked 5 months pregnant, was embarrassed about the way I looked and was developing back and leg pains. Also during that time, my understanding doctor who was going to do a myo whenever I felt ready, relocated, leaving me with her partner, who thought myos were a waste of time and refused to even discuss it, insisting I needed a hyst as soon as possible. I agree that right now there's probably no reason for you to rush into anything. And I don't think you should let a doctor pressure you into imediate surgery. But if I had to do it over again (and if I get another fibroid) I would not wait so long. The myo was nothing really. And even though the symptoms from my fibroid were not as bad as many women here, just the toll it took on my self-esteem, hiding behind loose clothing, gaining weight because diet and exercise seemed pointless and did nothing to rid me of that bulge, embarrassment over leaving my desk so often to go to the ladies room and becoming unable to enjoy sex were so much worse than the surgery, I think it was foolish to put up with it all for so long. I really should have had the surgery 4 years ago. DD Knowlesh01@... wrote: I was diagnosed with an 11x8 pedunculated fibroid on the outside of my uterus a few months ago. Would love to hear from anyone about my situation and any advice you can give me. If anyone has had a similar situation. It is hard to decide to have surgery when I am not experiencing any or minimal discomfort. I have enjoyed reading others posts and have learned so much. Guest guest
I had the same thing 12 years ago! I ended up having to have emergency surgery after collapsing from hemorraging because the a**h*** doctor I was seeing at the time gave me homeopathic remedies to try to shrink a fibroid - mind you, no x-ray, no ultrasound either! i could have died! A pedunculated fibroid can be extremely dangerous. At 4/3/03 03:03 PM, Knowlesh01@... wrote: >I was diagnosed with an 11x8 pedunculated fibroid on the outside of my uterus >a few months ago. Guest guest
Thanks so much for your reply. I am anxious to see what the IVP shows today, that will help me make a decision.
Guest guest
How did the IVP go? I had one recently when my pelvic/vaginal ultrasound showed fluid in the kidneys. Although the IVP was ok and kidney function normal, it is clear that my fibroids are long-term doing damage to my kidneys because I have contstant bladder problems (can't void completely, sometimes can't void at all). I'm scheduled for a hyst in May. Often I feel like you that it seems wierd to be having surgery when most of the time I feel ok. But when I'm trying to pee and nothing comes out, I'm reminded why I'm doing this! Caryn
