Guest guest
I can't answer any of your questions, but I thank you for the post because I am going to ask my doc about a yeast infection.... > > Hi there, I have been faithfully sticking to the SCD Diet since Sept 2008 when I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. While on the SCD I stopped passing blood and I started getting some firm BM's (after 3 years of D), but I wasn't able to progress past pecanbread's stage 1/2 without symptoms getting worse. An MD who is interested in alternative medicine had me do a Metrametrix GIFx test which indicated that I had an issue with yeast, so I began a 6 week course of Diflucan (an antifungal) and limited foods that support yeast. Almost immediately all D stopped and I have had firm BM's for teh last 3 weeks. I've also been able to slowly add more vegetables without having a reaction. This is the most amazing progress I've seen in my Crohn's since first getting sick almost 4 years ago. I'm not sure if they D will return when I stop taking Diflucan, but I'm hopeful that I will now be able to progress to a more complete version of the SCD. > > Has anyone else had dramatic reduction in symptoms while on Diflucan? I seem to be having a bit more gas and bloating than usual and I'm wondering if this is a side effect of the Diflucan. > > Cheers, > >
Guest guest
I'm doing the diflucan for 6 weeks ...my doc (md) actually wanted me on it for 3 months ...but $400 is my max on my extended & I can't afford more than that ...so after 6 weeks I will do 6 weeks more with no-carb scd & rotating natural antifungals ( i get them from my boss for cost+20% so they're much cheaper for me than "meds) ..though if the 3 months doesn't do it --I'll be trying ldn ( since by then my boss ( ND) will have pharma prescribing rights ( & he's going on it too for his rheumatoid arthritis ) but so far on the diflucan I'm much less painful bloating & daily-well-formed bm's, tolerating more veggies ( was able to add in fermented white bean mash!) so good so far! Guest guest
Gisele, Glad the diflucan is helping. Is the LDN cheaper than the diflucan? Can you have a large candida overgrowth without much bloating? i get a little bloated at times, but usually not anything severe? Guest guest
I think yeast/candida shows up differently in everyone--so not necessarily bloating ...it forms colonies at your weak points? for me, I barely get vaginal yeast issues ...but my sinuses/ears & eyes get very mucousy, stuffy & itchy ...I know it often shows up as a rash ...my boss' opinion ( he's an ND) is that it often shows up as IBD ...i did a $200 microbiology & it came back as "many" under yeast ( of the ~50 we do per year, times 7 years ...that's the first "many" lol...lucky me!! ) he treats even if it says "few" as he says it's notoriousely hard to culture ...but thats where/how I found out that parapsilosis is my most dominant strain ( I have albicans too) & which antifungals work for it ( it usually list 1/2 dozen natural ones as well as pharma ones ) ...yeast is a beast! lol...recently a distant cousin produced a 500 year family history & it showed that from the 1800's on, my relatives were notorious for going bonkers & gettin hauled off to "asylums"lol ...so apparently yeast/non-sour dough baking wasn't too good for my ancestors either lol..so scd will hopefully keep me out of the nuthouse by feeding me nuts!!lol ;-) gisele

Guest guest
Thanks Gisele. I used to get HORRIBLE vaginal yeast infections, and then I stopped. Haven't had one in years, but my cervical mucous (the normal vaginal secretions) smell a little yeasty. Once in college we did a kiss plate in microbiology class and tried to ID the critters that grew. (We kissed the agar plates). Mine had a few colonies of regular ole looking bacteria, and one colony of something that was larger than bacteria, which we could not ID at the time, but I now believe was yeast.
