Maybe you should ask on the pecanbread.com yahoo group - since they are the kid experts. but I think the better course right now it to stop all supplementation and probiotics, until you figure out the cause. And if he is will to eat, do the intro soup. Mara

Guest guest
The blood is not good - along with the rest. I don't know if you are aware of the several potential pitfalls of probiotic supplements - Many have prebiotic additives designed to feed the bacteria after they are in the gut. The usual ones are FOS (fructo-oligosaccharides) or inulin. These also feed the undesirable bacteria and are to be avoided. Also, some probiotics have lactose added. Then there is the question of what bacteria are in it. Most probiotics have a mixture of Lactobacillus types and Bifidobacter species (and some have Streptococcus). Bifidobacter can cause problems for some people. It is usually not a problem because the Bifidobacter is usually dead - it can't stand oxygen. Some fresher supplies that have been kept cold may have some live Bifidobacter, so that may be the problem. Choose a probiotic that only has Lactobacillus species in it. Since it is hard to find ones that do not have Bifidobacter, you may have better luck looking for Lactobacillus reuterii (Primadophilus brand). That said, the bloody D will radically change the population of gut bacteria for the worse. Do the intro diet, and stop the vitamins for now, but it is important to get the probiotics into him. The probiotics provide important inflammation reduction. > > > My 7 year old is having a flare after 3 1/2 years of doing SCD and > > doing great with the diet until now.
