Guest guest
Hi Bill... What a decision to have to make. I am one who is against root canals, and if I had one I wouldn't hesitate to have it removed... hell, I'd let em cut off my hand if I thought it would make this chronic crap go away. However, we are not talking one or two teeth with you, you may have to go to dentures, and that is something only you can decide. I will say I've had lower dentures for 12 yrs and have never had any tori (?) or any other growths from them. Never even heard of such a thing...maybe I'm just lucky, don't know, but my dentist has never mentioned them either. I guess what you have to decide is which is worse, dealing with the cu, or the teeth. If your cu doesn't limit what you can do, or affect your work, then I'd say keep the teeth. For me, the cu has destroyed my once active happy life, cost me my job, and with no income has put a tremendous burden on my husband to make up for my loss. So the decision for me to have root canals removed would be easy..50-50 chance is better than sitting here hoping someday these damn things will go away. But I can understand anyone who doesn't feel the same as me. What I base my 'opinion' on is: even tho an x-ray, CT-scan, or MRI, 'may or may not' show any infection at the base of the tooth, the 'fact' is....we're not talking about the infection at the base of the tooth, we're talking about the infection that has, and will always, leak the bacteria into the body which then makes it systemic, and this is what causes chronic health problems. Cleaning out the pocket of infection, or repairing the root canal, will only be a short fix. The tooth root(s) will continue to emit the bacteria into the body. For anyone whose cu is caused by a root canal, the only way to resolve it is to have it removed and take the 'required' antibiotic for 2 to 6 wks. Remove the cause and treat the body. Good luck Bill.
