Guest guest
Thank you for the welcome posts and being concerned with me for my husband. I'll tell a bit more about him in this post. I don't know if I'll remember all to respond to though. He has Diabetes II. He is not very overweight, just a bit, and he's lost some weight, so pretty close to where he " should " be. His paternal grandmother was diabetic too. Otherwise I know of no other diabetics in his family. His father died young, so there's no way to know if he'd have been diabetic in his later years. He had no symptoms that alerted us to diabetes. But he has had two heart attacks in the past few years. Lately his skin had gotten sort of shiny and slick looking. He kept attributing it to age. But after starting treatment for diabetes, his skin went back to normal. One other thing that I thought was due to his heart has also disappeared, and that was the dark circles around his eyes. He'd look like a racoon sometimes, I tell ya! Now he'll get dark around the eyes if he's truly very tired, but otherwise he looks so much better. It's amazing to me. We discovered it by stopping at a free thing at Wal-Mart. His numbers were up around 361, which shocked me. So, I dragged him kicking and screaming to the doctor. haha They did a fasting test and his number was still well over 300. That other test they do was 11 as I recall. My husband can be very stubborn, but we have a Saint of a doctor who was very diplomatic. He's on metformin and he exercises on a treadmill daily. We are still juggling the food issues. He tests his blood regularly, not as often as I'd like him to, but he has to feel in control of his own treatment, or he'll balk at it. He does indulge me by testing his blood when he eats something I feel he shouldn't. Like we don't eat many potatoes, but the other night we did. So, I asked him to test his blood a couple of hours after dinner. His number was 186. The next night his number registered 118. He went through a stage where his legs would feel wobbly. That would always scare me a bit. He's had to adjust his blood pressure medication and his cholesterol medication too. He is feeling SO much better now. He was feeling okay, but tired, then felt wobbly and weird sometimes when getting used to treatment. But now he's so much more vital and his face is SO much happier looking. The exercise is working wonders. I'd suggest exercise to anyone, but it appears to be a diabetic's best friend. At least from my observation of my husband's rapid improvement. Thanks for listening to me. If you read this far, bless you! Janet
