Guest guest
Yes, I am. I'm still taking 3/8 tsp per day, but sometimes I add a bit more. I've also started to substitute sea salt for some of the pure salt, but I am not sure that is a good idea. I think I should add sea salt to the 3/8 pure salt. My feet looked a bit puffy last night. I just got to thinking one day about all the additional nutrients in the sea salt and thought I could benefit. That's great! Fascinating isn't it? All those years of avoiding salt...:-( I cannot wait till we have family visit and they see how much salt I put on my food! An 1/8 tsp is a LOT on one sandwich or a portion of fish! One of my favorites is salted cucumbers with yogurt. YES, I am having a great time eating so much salt!!! Ever since that discussion, I have been liberally salting my foods. My minor swelling of feet and ankles has gone down. My legs still pit a little when you press the chin bone, but I think I'm better. Blessings, Debbie K.
Guest guest
Yes, When I read your info on salt actually being a diurectic (sp?) I thought, 'What the heck' and began to eat all I wanted. To my surprise the swelling went down! What a relief! I can actually enjoy my food. I think now I've learned that God gives us these cravings for a reason and I need to to quit listening to the food-pyramid gods and start listening to my body that God gave me. Blessings, Debbie K. Guest guest
I totally agree! Which reminds me....I have this theory: it stems from when I am tired from lack of sleep, and so feel drained. This situation makes me feel like eating. I know it is not actual hunger. I think it is my body's way of trying to increase my energy...which I lack from short-sleep, not from lack of food. It's not a good solution, but.... Which brings me to.... when I started Armour and noticed that my appetite decreased, I started thinking about the whole low energy appetite reaction. Now, when I need an increase in my Armour I notice that I have an appetite without hunger. When the Armour is good I have an appetite WITH hunger only, otherwise I don't care much about eating. So, I am thinking that my past cravings for food without hunger were the body's way of trying to increase energy amounts when thyroid levels were too low to sustain normal energy. What else could it do? So this makes me think that anyone who has an appetite without really needing food energy ought to consider hypoT, either primary or secondary, blah, blah,blah....make sense??? Guest guest
Makes perfect sense to me. I have the appetite w/o hunger and so does my daughter. I can relate to the no-sleep, want-to-eat thing too. So I look forward to the day when my body doesn't crave so much food. I have already lost my craving for sweets. I guess that's a good sign. Guest guest
You have written exactly what I have had buzzing around in my head. I recently upped my dose of Armour to 3 grains but I have returned to unnecessary eating and hunger. I think I need to up again but I want to wait a while before I do. I've already belly busted once on this stuff and I don't want to do it again. I think I will increase my hydrocortisone again up to 15 mg. I had another increase in stress yesterday with my nephews ex-wife attempting suicide, again. It was a full moon this week and it has been very noticeable to me. Jen R. I've noticed a craving for salt that I hadn't experienced in years. I have been able to pass the chip aisle with no problems for years, not of late. I have made it my crusade that if I have to have the chips then I will get ones with the least amount of unnatural ingredients. Lays Kettle chips have won. Potatoes, oil, and sea salt. -- Re: Roxanna- Salt I totally agree! Which reminds me....I have this theory: it stems from when I am tired from lack of sleep, and so feel drained. I never felt hunger - last time, actually was when I was a teenager - until I began thyroid hormones. I used to think that I lacked willpower when i was tired and so grabbed the easiest thing to eat - this was always when I would give in to any unhealthy eating. If it was possible for me to sleep instead, I slept..but when I had to stay awake and do something I would go on a crapfest.

Guest guest
Thank you Roxanna, I just can't even imagine what kind of shape I would be in if it were my mother having problems - luckily the people that are turning to me are tertiary family members and also have others to fall back on. I'd probably be bedridden if it were my mother. My family often turns to me when these problems arise - I seem to be a good listener and will tell people the truth whether want to hear it or not. Of course two suicidal people in one week has pushed me past the limit of endurance. I have nothing left to give even in the smallest way or I will be physically ill. The respiratory problem is hovering over me. I'm still coughing just nothing like this past summer, but it's like it is just waiting for something to push me too far. I made myself go without chips for about three days then last night broke down and bought some. I HAD to have three bowls before I went to bed. Yesterday was ovulation day for me and my rings were spinning around on my fingers about ready to fall off. Ovulation, salt, and a shift in fluids in my body - how are all of these things related? I love corn chips but my body has revolted against them in the last few years. I don't think my body likes " corn, " period. You tell that naughty puppy he has to have opposable thumbs to type. Jen PS I had some kind of major shift last week - all my fingernails broke off, skin got drier, began falling asleep sitting up in the afternoons, etc. -- Re: Roxanna- Salt My GSD made me send that before I was through!!! Guest guest
Jen, Gosh, I always retain tons of water with ovulation! I am jealous! And my ovulations have been screwed up lately and so the whole process is prolonged, or doesn't happen quite right. Like right now....I cannot get my rings off! It's the whole mess....oilier skin, break-outs....UGH! Estrogen rises the most just before ovulation and estrogen causes water retention...what are you doing??? Do you use a progesterone cream? What kind? I'd love to stop this ovulation bloat. It makes me nuts! Last period I did NOT have cramps!!! If you knew my history of severe cramps you would know this is a miracle! I'm wondering if it is the new physiology due to Armour and hc. We will see this next period. You definitely need to set limits right now about how much you expend of yourself on others. If you feel you are on the edge, then you are. You know how bad a crash can be. I do use an extra 2.5-5 mg of hc right after a psychological shock where my adrenals are so weak. My brother told me that I need to take care of myself first and foremost right now. You know, if we do not then we are so bad off that we cannot even take care of ourselves. I've been there....I know you have too. I don't recall...sorry....are you on HC support for your adrenals now? OH!!! Just saw your PS!!! Wow....sounds lack of thyroidish to me! Guest guest
Roxanna, The week prior to starting my period I begin craving carbs and also begin retaining the fluids. The next week I start my period and by the third day the extra fluid is gone. The week after my period when I ovulate, the day of, I often experience nausea, diarrhea, a heightened sense of taste, smell, and hearing, and my rings just spin on my hands. Then the next week I'm normal. " Then it all starts over again. No progesterone cream, etc. I have been feeling " on the edge " of panic several times of late. I HATE THAT FEELING. It is such an out-of-control feeling. I feel so stupid when I have it. Jeez, it is just a trip to the doc, or just a class you want to take, or just your family coming over for lunch. Why in the world are you feeling so torqued up. I think I have noticed the hc helping these feelings but I was kind of assuming that with the right amout of hc (physiological amount) I wouldn't get these feelings. I guess I thought the right amount of hc and the right amount of Armour together would help alleviate this problem. I remember discussing on this group how T3 is related to anxiety/panic. Which the lack of is what got me into this mess. Anyway, I bumped the Armour not long ago, I think I need to bump the hc up to 15 mg a day instead of 10. I've been trying to take care of myself. My step-daughter has called three times from the psychiatric center in the past 24 hours and I have not accepted any of her calls. My feeling is that she should be concentrating on taking care of herself while she is there and not continuously trying to control things outside of the unit by telephone. I doubt we will see eye-to-eye on that idea, so I'm just going to skip discussing it with her. Of course after skipping her calls, my other step-daughter called from Iraq ( she just arrived there last Friday) and updated me. She sounded a bit down and tired of course, so now I can worry about her. She had to leave her 7 month old baby with his father who is also in the military for her stint in Iraq. Father and baby are in Florida and she is worried that they will lose power and all of her breast milk in the freezer will spoil. She left the baby about a year's worth of milk. If it isn't one thing it is another. Jen R. PS I thought it sounded thyroidish also, but I'm afraid to bump just yet since I just did on about 8/23/04. I'm terrified of making myself feel worse. I just had a craving hit for potato chips so off I go. -- Re: Roxanna- Salt Jen, Gosh, I always retain tons of water with ovulation! I am jealous! And my ovulations have been screwed up lately and so the whole process is prolonged or doesn't happen quite right. Guest guest
Thank you for your thoughts Debbie. I think a lot of us on this list are mother hens to the people in our lives which doesn't help with our problems at all. I really appreciate the support I get from this group. Sometimes just knowing that you are not alone in how you feel physically gives strength. jen r. -- RE: Roxanna- Salt Gen! Sorry to hear you're haveing such a tough time right now. My prayers will be with you. Blessings, Debbie K.
