Also, B-12.

I tested for B-1,2,3,5, and 6 as well. Pantothenic Acid (B-5) showed no

recovery. Re-tested twice after supplementation and still deficient. As I

understand, B-5 and Biotin are the only two B's with receptors in the colon

instead of the small intestine and they evidently compete with each other for

those receptors.

B-5 is an essential vitamin and without it ones gut does not work properly, not

to mention many other primary functions in other areas. Human deficiency is

extremely rare, only seen in severely malnourished prisoners of war and

concentration camp victims, etc., as B-5 is plentiful in many foods, that's why

it's called " Pan " tothenic Acid.

No one has been able to come up with any explanation for my deficiency. If

anyone on this list has any ideas or experience with this, I would be extremely

grateful for any information on the subject.

This is interesting since I am deficient in other B's (never checked B5) but if

I supplement B's (B12, B6 and B2 seem to be ok sometimes) in IV's I get such a

bad headache- B5 makes me really over the top exhausted.

My B12 is high but my other integrative doc still puts it in my IV. There is

controversy on what a good B12 level really is. Apparently the amounts here in

the US are much lower than EU standards.

Another thing to read about. LOL.

Blood serum...as with all other B's.

All others were within normal range.

I had to laugh when told deficiency in humans was almost unknown...just what I

How do you know B-5 makes you over the top, etc? Have you taken it all by

itself? Orally or IM or IV?

How B's are given (amounts in relation to one and other) is vitally important,

and anyway, cannot be formulated exactly to reproduce how they appear in food.

If the relationship between them is off, a deficiency in one or the other can be

created and cause big problems. Best to get your B's from food if at all

possible. Nutritional yeast is a good source. Is it legal? I would think not.

Also, be careful with the ongoing B-12, as unlike the other B's it is stored in

the body and too much is no good.

Jodi...I was born aberrant. Perfectly normal in appearance, but my mind...well

that's a different story. However...it took a course of unnecessary abx eight

years ago to reveal the fragility of my ability to tolerate same...ending in gut

disaster.

Dinah,

I very much relate to this. Although I was DX'd with CD a couple of years prior

to this event ABX- I got a long course of Clindamycin for really bad impacted

wisdom teeth- my stamina and health completely changed. Utter disaster. It is

amazing I am alive really.

I have never been the same since.

I see we are very similar as some of these " illegal " questions irk me too... I

think it makes many of us question the " why " behind some of Elaine's choices-

and she isn't here to give us full on explanations. Even then, do you think she

would have the time for every little " why " question LOL. It's a blessing she

did what she did.

One of the things you need to ask yourself when it comes to illegals in general

" what can it be feeding or contributing to the gut dysbiosis environment " This

is why for instance Candida can be a real problem for some. Some people don't

know how bad their Candida is and being fruit heavy in the begining of the diet

will damper their progress.

I think in the case of nutritional yeast it's like this wild card- as it seems

to me whether dead or alive it would totally feed some nasty critters.

I would love one of our home brew scientists or SCD'er with knowledge on the

subject to speak up!!

We always have some -expert- in our bunch.. But people are busy feeling well.

Hi Alyssa..

It's pretty much safe to presume that we with IBD have gut dysbiosis it goes

hand n' hand. There are so many microbes at play in any given individual that

it's hard when things are labeled under the way over generalized term of

" Candida " .

The SCD calls for fanatical adherence for it to work. I personally wouldn't

keep something like Brewers Yeast in. If you aren't improving that should be

one of the first things to pull for sure.

Have you read " Gut and Psychology Syndrome " by Dr Natasha McBride? She

basically took the SCD and expanded on it (it is still the regular diet with

subtle differences as she focuses more on Brain issues) anyway, in this book IMO

she really does a good job explaining what Gut Dysbiosis and Candida really are.

She also gives different reasons why we come down with it and are plagued with

it in our society. Really a fascinating read and a must for any SCD'er!
