If so, mine was in only AFTER I was asleep, and by the time I woke up, it was gone. I had a mild sore throat for about a day after surgery, but that was it. It wasn't bad at all in my case. Speaking of tubes, the catheder was also not that bad--inserted in bladder after you're asleep. However, it was removed while I was awake, two days after surgery (I was in the hospital for a total of 3 days). Taking it out felt WEIRD and uncomfortable, but not painful. It was a huge relief to have that out and be able to pee like a normal human being. Funny the things we take for granted. My first poop, pee and fart were a big deal post-op because the nurses and docs wanted to know when they happened. And it was comforting that my plumbing was all connected. I just had the milk of magnesia (wow did that clean me out) the night before and didn't eat or drink after midnight. It was an amazingly easy and routine surgery. The worst part for me was the insertion of the IVs--one in each hand--but even that was not that bad because I just did deep breathing, visualizations and relaxation techniques. And the nurse was very kind and gentle when inserting the IVs. I do remember that the surgery prep area was FRIGID, but that's the norm. They do give you sock booties and blankets to keep you warm. The anestheseologist (spelling?) was so kind and reassuring. Gosh, those Richmond folks were great. I'm sure at Fremont (that's where you'll have it, right?) will treat you well. After all, they want the patients to be calm as can be. Before you know it, you'll be on the other side! Gemello -148 lbs > Thanks Gem, that is the NG Tube.
