Guest guest
Assuming it's not a positional/circulation issue, it sounds like neuropathy. Do I remember you saying before that was having some behavioral issues? If so, neuropathy can be pretty painful and that might account for difficulties depending on how verbal she is. My son is very verbal but still cannot adequately express when he is not feeling well or in pain - so he just acts like a pill - sometimes including violent behavior. -Terri > >Reply-To: Mito >To: <mito > >Subject: MITO:Numb toes and feet >Date: Sat, 23 Mar 2002 21:44:01 -0000 > >Hey guys! >Hope you all are having a great weekend! >Have any of you experiences numb toes and feet with your kids? Guest guest
, son has neuropathy in his legs and feet (it is now in his hans as well) causing him to have frequent pain and what he describes as a burning sensation. Sometimes his feet and legs are so blue and cold up to his knees, then at other times the appear quite fine. Very strange. son says when his pain is bad if he soaks his feet in warm water they feel better - Now, I am not a doctor and have no clue if this helps or not from a medical perspective - BUT, from a mom's perspective if soaking his feet makes him feel more comfortable then that's what we do. He swears by it and it makes him more comfortable. Now that the neuropathy is affecting his hands so badly, we are looking into starting him on Neurontin to see if it helps. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Teri, Thants to a T. Violent big time. She also complains about bad pain and says it hurts to lay in her bed. We got her a new one when she came home from the hospital in Sept. because we just thought it was the old ancient bed, well guess not. She seems to never sleep well. I am gonna ask if there is something we can give her at night to help with the pain and sleeplessness when she goes in the hospital Monday for 10 days. Thanks for the info! Have a great week! Guest guest
: when my dad was ill with prostate cancer he had a foam pad on top of his bed that seemed to help with his pain and he had a lot of bone pain. It was an eggshell crate foam pad. It positions the body differently than a regular mattress. You may want to ask about that and also about what you can give her for the pain to help her sleep at night. Have a great week. And good luck getting ready to go to the hospital. My daughter also has neuropathy, and is very very verbal. But I had no idea of the pain she felt, because she didn't realize that she wasn't supposed to hurt. She always has. She recently wrote a paper for school about her disease and my heart sank when I read what she wrote about not ever being able to escape the pain sometimes..... She acknowledged that she has just recently realized that there are medicines that you can take for the pain. Jeannine
Guest guest
, I have noticed recently that my son with autism/? mito is ( well his crying spells are back) and he is actually biting and pulling real hard on his toes and fingers! I ask the same question then..why might he be doing this.. I have to look at the behaviors.. as he cannot communicate to me verbally. Are they going numb is an intersting idea. And then behaviorally he is trying to bring back sensation.. I wonder..or his nerves are shot at school with a new aggressive kid in his self contained classroom.. Intersesting ?
