Guest guest
I ran the Nike Marathon back in 2005. It is definately a challenge because you really have to take in a lot of calories. I used Coconut Water to replace the illegal Powerade/Gatorade drinks. It was really helpful because you need to replace your electrolytes especially during summer training. The coconut water is legal and should be just the juice of a young coconut. There have been studies done with coconut water and endurace atheletes (cyclist) and it has shown to have better results than the so-called sports drinks. Mainly because the potassium and sodium closely resemble the human bodies. I also used packets of honey instead of the powerbars and gummie bears that others snacked on during their training. My teammates were really cool about picking up packets of honey whenever they were in a Starbucks or Chick-fil-a. There is actually no strong scientific evidence that supports carb-loading helps with endurance events. I am medical librarian and have actually researched this. So really you just need to eat a lot and often to replace your calories. Before my long runs I would usually just eat Welch's grape juice jello, watermelon, and sometimes a smoothie w/ SCD yogurt. Post workout was usually bananas and eggs. It is important to get some protien in you post workout. Most marathoners have digestive issues during their race. I never did. I think it was because I had to eat such simple foods rather than the complex carbs, so my body easily broke it down. I hope this helps and if you need any more tips or have questions you can email me directly at eajones33@... Guest guest
What an inspiration you are to those of us just starting out on the diet. I am not a runner, but have been athletic and want to keep it up. Thank you!
