Guest guest
Hi , has the same problem. Around 10 AM in school during circle time while his peers are raring to go, he has to lean on his teacher because he is too tired to sit upright. At first we thought it was the periactin but we aren't giving it to him in the morning. His doctor thinks that because he has much smaller muscle he doesn't have the stammina of his peers. When he is active he is just as active but then quickly tires until he can re-energize his muscles. Also, still naps for 2 hours almost every afternoon. Sometimes he misses but he not much and that is in addition to sleeping almost 11 hours each night. Also, I wanted to say that I think often about how hard it must be for you with your husband on east coast and you on the west. Just my opinion but I agree, maybe he should take some time off and drive home. In addition, I know it must be hard for all the single parents trying to cope with this on top of just the everyday stuff. My hat is off to you. Guest guest
, It could be the lower muscle tone. She has to work harder to do the same things her peers are doing and is actually using up more energy than they are. Does this make since? It is just a guess, but that is what I always attributed Storm's problem of tiring more easily with. Carmen

Guest guest
Hi , I'm also really interested in hearing other people's answers to this question. Tyler, who's about 2 1/2, still has a 3-hour nap every afternoon. He'd sleep for 4 hours, but we decided that was too long and usually wake him from a deep sleep. Most of the other kids this age don't sleep at all - the ones who do only sleep for about 1 1/2 hours at most. From everything you've said, she's doing so well on growth hormones (increasing strength, growth and better moods) that I thought GHT would also provide more energy. I don't have any personal experience with growth hormones, so this was just my perception. Do you know what to do about school if she hasn't grown out of it by next year? Most kids in New Zealand start afternoon kindergarten 3 days per week at age 3, but there's no way we can send Tyler if he's still so tired. I don't mind keeping him home at age 3, but I don't want him to miss out when all of the other kids his age are going. Until he has more energy, I'll just take him to a playcenter a couple of mornings per week. I don't have any answers - just wanted to add this because it's a concern for us too, and I'll be interested to hear if anyone has any insights. (Tyler, 29 mos, 20.5 lbs, 32.5 " , and , 14 mos)

Guest guest
Hi , I just thought I would throw in my two cents, since and Tyler are very close in age and size. (27 mos) sleeps a good 2 to 2 1/2 hrs for a nap when he is here at home. At daycare he sleeps a little less, 1 1/2 to 2 hrs, since there is more commotion there. He sleeps at night from 8:30 pm to about 7:00 am, but will occasionally sleep until 8:00 am if he doesn't have to go to daycare. I don't see where he gets more worn out than others his age when he is awake. He seems to have as much energy as other kids his age. However, I do see if he hasn't eaten well on a particular day, he has less energy and is rather cranky. has always been a relatively " good " sleeper even when he was a baby. My best friend has a son six months older than , and he takes 1 to 1 1/2 hr naps, and sleeps about 10 hrs at night. Sandy - Mom to , 27 mos, 21.75 lbs, 33.25 inches. Guest guest
Hi I have exactly the same problem with Christian. Here in the UK children generally start school[9.00-11.30]5 days a week from between 31/2 to 4 years old depending on when their b'days are. They then start full time[9.00-3.15] when they are 41/2 to 5 years.Christian was always exhausted after nursery and I really didn't think he would make it through the day when he went full time but stangely enough he doesn't seem any more tired. He is still worn out but no more than in Nursery. He seems to keep going as long as he doesn't stop.I guess just like us,as soon as we stop we are suddenly shattered!!!Christian is on the 25 centile and I have asked lots of times about his energy levels and I have just been told that " IT'S AN RSS THING " . Guest guest
Thanks Debby - I never would have thought about asking the school to schedule the more academic subjects in the morning. That's a great idea - he definitely has lots of energy before 11:30! We'll just have to see if they listen to me since I don't know if he'll get anything like an IEP here. Also, since kids start a full-day of school on their 5th birthday (I know it's strange - they don't at the beginning of the year - they just come in on the day they turn 5), I'd imagine that lots of the 5 year-olds and maybe even the 6 year-olds would benefit from having those subjects in the morning! Guest guest
, At my school, we make sure that all kids up to the age of 12 have math, language arts and reading before they eat lunch at noon. They are just too tired after lunch for such important subjects. It amazes me that other schools don't always think of this. I hate it when the school makes the child fit the routine instead of the other way around. Guest guest
So how does your whole school manage to get every grade the proper number of hours in the gym, library, music, and in our case French as well classes if all the classes under the age of 12 need only afternoon slots? In our school that would be 16 classes who have to have 1 hour a week of gym, music, etc. all in the afternoons. How does you school manage the time tabling? I would love to present your methods to my school because it would solve a huge dilemma for us. Thanks Jodi Debby Re: Why is so much more tired than other > >kids? > >Date: Sun, 16 Sep 2001 00:51:16 -0000 > > > >Thanks Debby - > > > >I never would have thought about asking the school to schedule the > >more academic subjects in the morning. Guest guest
They have gym, music, science, social studies, Spanish, art, etc. in the afternoon, after lunch. The older kids, grades 7 and 8 have a more mixed up schedule. I don't make it up, though. The director does. Guest guest
I guess your school is much smaller than ours Jodi, that's why that perfect system can work for you. But we manage to do quite well with what we have. Generally as the children get to grades 4 and up they should learn to " learn " all day and not in the mornings. My God if they didn't start to get use to it, they'd never manage high school, university or a job. But I would say most days of the week we can get math/language in the morning. Actually our school system is on the leading edge of a wonderful new way of teaching language. We started it a number of years ago and it is showing huge gains. It's called Balanced Literacy. And in actual fact we do language ALL day. We have a number of blocks that language occurs in, and even if it's reading buddies, that can happen in the afternoon. We celebrate language morning and afternoon. But for Adam's IEP, if the teacher wants heavy results of work done, it's got to be in the a.m. Debby Re: Why is so much more tired than other > > > >kids? > > > >Date: Sun, 16 Sep 2001 00:51:16 -0000 > > > > > > > >Thanks Debby - > > > > > > > >I never would have thought about asking the school to schedule the > > > >more academic subjects in the morning. Guest guest
Everyone - I have NO idea what I will do next year if she hasn't grown out of this. Right now, kindergarden here in our town is only 3 hours long. 8am to 11:20am. With only 20 minutes of that being outdoor play of any kind. Once 1st grade starts and she goes another 2 hours.... I am guessing that mentally, she is simply more tired than others. There is a side of me that would love to stop the Periactin and see if her fatigue with school got any better. Hmmmm....
Hmmmm.... Guest guest
: Maybe is because his tinny condition, my son is very active, but of course he gets tired sooner than another kids of his same age, or some times, he needs to rest more than the others to recover his energy. Just a thought Betty Why is so much more tired than other kids? Can anyone with experience help me understand why tires so much easier than her peers? I mean, she is now in the 10%'tile of the weight chart, and 25 " tile of the height, so it isn't too bad. She is 5.5 yrs old and just started kindergarden. She sleeps 11.5 hours at night. Wakes around 7:15am, gets dressed and eats a good breakfast. Kindergarden starts at 8am. She has a carbo snack at 9:10am. A mini-lunch at 10:10am (half a sandwhich and a yogurt for example). But when I pick her up at 11:20am, she is BEAT!!! Sometimes I carry her down the hill and she is almost asleep my shoulder. And yet her peers are all raring to go, planning play dates, etc. I take her home and she has quiet time (gulp, I do let her watch TV for a while while she eats again). Around 3pm, she is ready to rare again, do sports or play. I am wondering why she gets so tired by 11:20am? Is it calories? Is it just that she is still so thin? Any ideas? Guest guest
Debby - yes, she is on GH, Humatrope, for 11 months now. She has gained lots of weight and muscle tone, but her fatigue level has not been affected. Sleeping 12 hours at night, but I can't seem to get her to sleep during the day, despite the yawning, tantrums, etc. even driving her in the car no longer works. I have pulled back on the morning Periactin for a while, and am having her rest each afternoon after school. I am going to see if this helps her get through the first few weeks of school. Thanks RSS-Support wrote: > > I can't remember but is on GH yet? Now with Adam, he couldn't make > it through the day either. He fell asleep during story time. Guest guest
- as usual I'm always late in replying but your message struck chords with me.... I have found that when Sapphire has a growth spurt she always sleeps more. When you think about all that is going on in 's little body to produce the extra height and size all over and the energy taken up by growing it seems to me that something else less has to give. In the past I have fostered teenagers and on a visit to the doctor about why one teenager was always so tired he said it was because she was growing and all her energy was directed into growing. He said this was quite normal and that when her growth rate slowed down her tiredness would lessen. It makes sense to me....What do you think? Kindness always & Sapphire Why is so much more tired than other kids? > Can anyone with experience help me understand why tires so much easier than her peers? > > I mean, she is now in the 10%'tile of the weight chart, and 25 " tile of the height, so it isn't too bad.
