Guest guest
I, son of a Scandinavian father and Italian mother, was raised by my Italian gradparents since Dad was off in WWII and Mom was making bullets in the factory. I heard many " winners " too. Fo years I was uncertain why other Italian speakers did not know that " bakowza " was the Italian word for toilet. Then I asked my grandfather why we called toilets " bakowza. " He replied because that where it used to be in the old days, in the back of the house.
