Guest guest
Hi, I'm a newcomer to this group and to fibroids. I went to see my gynaecologist yesterday because of heavy periods, and just found out that I have a 6 cm. fibroid. I'm 43, and have no children but was still hoping, although my husband has a low sperm count. Anyway, she says that due to the size, and my enlarged uterus, a hysterectomy is the only option. I just wanted to know whether any of you had been able to have myectomies for such a large tumour, or whether she is right, and at that size, I have no other options. Thanks for any advice, I'm still in shock over this but I will need to think about my options fairly quickly. Sandy in Belgium

Guest guest
Hi Sandy, I hate to think what your doctor would say if she saw my fibroid (18cm). I go for a myomecty on May 8th. Yes my first doctor said the same thing but I found out he was wrong. Ruth

Guest guest
You definitely need to get another opinion. 6cm is not that large. If you read through the archives of this group you will find that women here have had much larger fibroids removed via myomectomy. Roma had 46 fibroids of varying sizes removed without resorting to a hysterectomy. The fact is that hysterectomy is a much easier surgery for your doctor to perform. > Hi, > > I'm a newcomer to this group and to fibroids. Guest guest
You should find a new doctor. My largest fibroid is 13cm and I'm having a myo. Guest guest
Sandy, 6 cm is not that large. I had two 6 cm fibroids removed via myomectomy in January. Other women on this board have had much larger and more numerous fibroids removed too. The record for size is 24 or 26 cm, and our very own Roma holds the record for most fibroids, with an astonishing 46 removed with a myo. You need to find another doctor - ASAP! All the best, Janet > > Hi, > > > > I'm a newcomer to this group and to fibroids. Guest guest
Heleen, Others have answered your question as to what is a myomectomy, but let me just add this for you to consider: your doctor who is " pushing " you to have a hysterectomy should have also explained to you ALL other options, and if he didn't feel you should have a myomectomy, uterine artery embolization--or whatever--explained why. Be leery of doctors who push one procedure (ANY procedure) for fibroids without explaining all the other options available. Your physician should advise you but not select your treatment, especially if you are unaware of what the treatments are. This happens a lot, unfortunately. I'm afraid many physicians only promote what they know how to do. B. Re: [sPAMSCORE] (medium): Digest Number 1772 > HI, > I am Heleen and new to this group. I am 48 and have a 12 cm fibroid.
