Guest guest
Hey , I get rapid heartbeat and shortness of breath often but they have attributed mine to prednisone use (along with all the other problems I seem to be having). I did get it checked out by a doctor though and they did some tests for my heart and a boat load of labs just to check out a bunch of stuff....all came back normal so we are blaming the pred. :-) yet again.... I also feel like my heart is going to jump out of my chest every night when I lay down...but that started when I started on the prednisone too. If this is the first time you've had this happen it would be a good idea to have a doctor check you out. Shortness of breath can be caused by so many things it's worth a once over. Amy G. difficulty breathing Hello all, Last night my dogs woke me up to go outside (and for the thousandth time I told them it was the last time...). There's 15 stairs down to the first floor and by the time I got back upstairs and laid down, my heart was pounding (not too terribly) and I had difficulty breathing. I was breathing at a normal rate - not huffing and puffing - but it felt like I couldn't get a full breath. Not panic- inducing, just definitly annoying and uncomfortable. After 10-15 minutes of deep breathing, yawning, shifting position, and the occasional cough it went away. Today, once in a while, it almost feels like it's starting again, though so far it hasn't. Is this the type of breathing difficulty associated with IgAN? I've never been diagnosed with asthma. Anyone have any thoughts or have a similar experience? Thanks much, B. Guest guest
Feeling one's own heartbeat when lying at night is simply a matter of anatomy, usually, that, plus just the quiet of the night. The more we pay attention to our bodies, and who doesn't who has a chronic kidney disease?, the more we are likely to notice our own heartbeat, and every little harmless skip that happens. Some of the blood pressure meds we take also dilate the arteries, and so we might feel our heartbeat more at times. The comments I had about sodium were meant for the difficulty breathing, not really the palpitations, although, if the BP is elevated, I guess a person might possibly feel the heartbeat more. Other than that, it's a fact that chronic renal failure unbalances our electrolytes a bit, and this can make the heart a little more " jumpy " than the average person's. Guest guest
Thanks for the reminder that shortness of breath and anemia go together! I'm glad things have cleared up for you on this front. Guest guest
Dear Pierre, Yes, that is part of it. Plus I've had cardiac echo, ect...and no major problems- just a little heart murmur. It can be an unnerving feeling to be aware of your own heartbeat, but I'm used to it by now. Cheers, -beth

Guest guest
Hi Rita, Please do schedule your physical. I think where there is so much attention to our kidney function, and we are at the doctors so often anyway, it is easy to forget that we need to take care of routine physicals too. I had not realized it had been 5 years since I had one so I fell right into that myself too. In a message dated 2/3/2005 6:43:18 P.M.
