Guest guest
Cyndi, Thanks so much for the site - I connected to it immediately and added it as a 'favourite'. With all that we take on a daily basis, having this tool to make sure we're safe is terrific. Guest guest
I found this site interesting. You select your medicines and it lists the drug interactions. http://health.discovery.com/encyclopedias/checker/checker.jsp
Guest guest
Thank you for posting this site. I looked up all my husbands medications. And I did find quite a few drug interactions. I am wondering why his doctors did not catch this. It should not just be up to the Pharmacy Tech or the Pharmacist. If the doctor(who has gone through enough schooling) can not catch these interactions shouldn't they be held accountable? From: Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS Chemistry <rxjm2002@...> Subject: Re: DRUG INTERACTION CHECKER Date: Sunday, February 1, 2009, 8:56 PM Thank you for this. I have been using Drugs.com Interactions Checker So I placed this in my links and file section. I thought Ihad it there before. Here it is, NO need to sign up: http://www.drugs. com/drug_ interactions. html It is the responsibility of the tech and pharmacist to use USP approved resources for checking information. So do not rely 100% on any internet source. USE FACTS and Comparisons, and what ever your job/hospital/ pharmacy recommends. Guest guest
Dear Arlene, First of all you need to know that even if some drugs interact that the risk benefit ratio may be low enough for the patient to benefit. So some doctors and pharmacists would discuss this and continue on the multiple drug therapy for good reason. Many doctors can not keep up on pharmacology the way they once could or pharmacists must, as there are soooooooooooooo many drugs now. So the RPh is their right hand person just as the nurse is. This forms the checks and balance of the health team. There is also the possibility that the interaction is only in a few people out of hundreds of thousands, thus not likely. Do NOT alarm your husband unnecessarily, he may decide not to take some medication that should be weaned off or is vital that he take it. I would discuss this finding with the pharmacist. If you prefaced your finding as to why you are not alerting your husband, I think he would double check everything and put you at ease. On the other hand if he or she saw something that says the drug therapy is very risky then I think the RPh would want to speak to your husband. Check with your pharmacist about what you found out. And be srue to check more than 20 sources. Guest guest
There's also: http://www.rxlist.com http://www.epocrates.com Rxlist doesn't require registration. Epocrates does require registration but is great if you have a PDA or Smartphone. > > Requires free MEDSCAPE registration > > http://www.medscape.com/druginfo/druginterchecker?cid=med > > > Example: > Multi-Drug Interaction Checker > Patient Regimen > POTASSIUM CHLORIDE IV > ENALAPRIL-HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE ORAL > > > Interactions > > Moderate Interaction > ACE INHIBITORS; ARB'S/POTASSIUM PREPARATIONS > Enalapril-Hydrochlorothiazide Oral and Potassium Chloride IV may > interact based on the potential interaction between ACE INHIBITORS; > ARB'S and POTASSIUM PREPARATIONS. >
