Anyone else's temps rise and fall in rhythm with menstrual cycle?

Or am I the only one? My temps are still on the low side, but when I menstruate

it goes up a bit and after menstruation it dips real low, like today 96.6

So I'm wondering whether folks like me would do better adjusting thyroid meds

throughout the cycle....

Heavens, I'm eagerly awaiting menopause :)

It's natural for your temps to rise and fall during your cycle.

Starting with day one, the first day of your period, your temp is at its

lowest. Just before you ovulate, a lot of women experience a slight dip, then

followed within a day or two a rise, a couple of degrees higher than before you

ovulated. You will have this higher temperature until your period starts again,

unless you are pregnant. Google " natural family planning, " if you

want more information.

Until I ovulate my temps are 98-98.2 and then dips at ovulation, and after ovulation it goes up to 98.3-8.4. Then it dips for a few days when my period is coming.

Those of you who have responded to this -- are the temps you are reporting before or after breakthrough/clearance?

It is normal for temperature to follow the cycle and change at

ovulation and period

I understand it is normal for the temps to be cyclic; I am not understanding the

deep dips such as one day 97 and the next day 96.6. One day 98 and the next day

97.3.

If your daily averages are fluctuating like that, that generally means you need

adrenal support.

What should happen with your cycle, if your adrenals are working or are

supported, is that they will change, but steadily, like average 98.6 from Day 1

to ovulation, then jump up and average 99 until your period comes again. Mine

jump up around day 15. I think some woman's temp may also drop slightly 1 or 2

days before ovulation, but they wouldn't be bouncing around and changing every

single day.

Does that make sense?

I answered about the change in temps, but to answer your original post, it would

not be normal to have to adjust thyroid meds throughout the cycle as the temp

changes should be due to changing sex hormones (usually the rise of progesterone

in the second half) and not due to changing thyroid hormones.

One thing that comes to mind is I've seen many women post that for whatever

reason menstruation seems to a stress in and of itself for which some actually

have to take extra HC during this time. This has happened to me in the past

before -- I would need extra HC the week before my period.

Do you use progesterone? I think the body will often " steal " cortisol (or your

HC) to make progesterone so you can have your period. Using progesterone (if you

need it) can stop that.

I'm not on progesterone, but hey, I'm gonna look into that. Thanks for the info!

It does feel like I need more thyroid when I have my period. Maybe it's the

cortisol being 'stolen' that makes me feel this way. I may try to take more hc

next period.

It makes sense. My basals used to have a pretty pattern: 96.8, 96.9, 97,

97.1,.97.2,

Recently, this has changed.

I'll go back to doing temps avgs. and that ought to tell me whether this is

cortisol issue.

Yes, I think the graphing is soooo helpful to show low cortisol. My basals are

great -- and steady, too, -- but my daily averages are TERRIBLE, unsteady and

often lower than my basals! Val said I needed more HC. She thought the good

basals may mean my nighttime cortisol is doing okay or even high.

If your periods are fairly regular, it is pretty easy to test progesterone and

see if you need it. Around 7 days before your period usually start is the best

time to test.
